...In his book "The Left Hand of God", Michael Lerner talks about the "contempt" for the American public displayed by Democrats -- that's us -- in choosing John Kerry in 2004, in spite of the fact that Kerry voted for the war and Democrats were overwhelmingly against it. Not "foolishness", not "miscalculation" -- contempt. It was not an assertion of values to nominate Kerry, but rather an assertion of electoral strategy. ...Jack Murtha was courageous not just in taking on the Bush administration, but in offering an honest assessment -- in public, in good faith -- of what is and is not possible to accomplish in Iraq. And my instinct is that people are crying out for a solution, for the adults to take charge again. They're desperate for any glimmer of optimism -- for relief from the grim "stay the course" of the administration and the blaming -- however justified -- of the out-of-power left. So let's talk about what we can do, however modest; and while doing so, crush the GOP for their bald cowardice in refusing to face today's reality.
His emphasis, NOT mine. So
