Just when I was starting to trust Matthews
he began spouting more of his anti-Democrat rhetoric on MSNBC this morning. He was talking about the House goings on yesterday, and accused the Democrats of hiding behind Murtha. Matthews said the Democrats wouldn't vote for the Republicans' resolution (which he implied was a sound one), yet, according to him, except for Murtha, no one in the Democratic Party has a real plan to get out of Iraq. He said this after his interview with Kerry, whom he didn't even mention as having a withdrawal plan! I was flabbergasted.

Matthews is out to try to destroy the Democratic Party. He wants a third party to come into power, no doubt about it.

Jerk.

1. like he didn't hear a word Kerry said!
Matthews problem is that his mouth isn't connected to his brain!

He thinks he's getting out ahead of the news--thinks he knows so much. Any self-respecting political junkie knows a lot more.

2. He's got to be pouting
This has to be because he didn't get a job in the Clinton Administration. I can't figure any other reason he would be so hateful.

3. If resenting the Clinton Administration were the root, wouldn't he
have supported Kerry as Kennedy's protege. The Clinton people clearly didn't welcome Kerry.

5. Would Kerry hire him?
Doubt it. I don't know why, but he does not seem to be welcome in the Democratic Party. And he seems to be hell bent on destroying it as a result.

8. Good point
but he went to college in Massachusetts. (His attendance there was the only negative I saw when my daughter chose to go there.)

4. The basic problem is that Matthews has a short attention span and some
Dems do not help.

Last week on ABC, Dean said that we would have a plan on Iraq when the time is rigt. Emmanuel said the same thing on Thursday, when asked if he agreed with Murtha, he said the Dems would have a plan when the time is right.

So I guess people like Matthews will conglomerate all that in "All dems have no plans".

7. Welll Clinton came out last week and said Bush made a mistake with the war
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 01:02 PM by Mass
Bush did not send enough troops and made the situation worse! (Clinton should take lessons from Murtha and Kerry on how to criticize Bush ).

The problem is that Dean, Emmanuel and co should be saying there is no official position of the Party at this point, but individual dems have been proposing plans (and say that as officials they dont want to endorse any plan but welcome them, rather that claiming proudly that the dems have no plans).

9. Hillary's strategy
That is Hillary's strategy, it was posted maybe last weekend or so. Demcrats shouldn't put out a plan because it will only take the focus off Bush's lack of a plan. Like we did with social security. The DNC & Rahm seem to be supporting that strategy, and I'm guessing Hillary.

Bill? I never know what to make of Bill. I kind of stopped listening to him on strictly political matters. He gives a compelling speech on poverty and international matters, but I never know for sure what his end game is or whether he even knows.

17. Good point on Social Security
We still don't know what happened in that Senate meeting where it seems that Reid was very cold to Kerry who thought the Dems should have some kind of plan (not sure if he meant SS plan or a PLAN to stop *'s plan).

But this is why I love Kerry, and I'm less impressed with some of the other Dems. He wants what's broken to be fixed. A lot of Dems are just trying to win elections by letting the Republicans fall on their faces. I think there is a lesson to be learned from 1994. True, there were a ton of scandals involving Dems in the Congress, but led by Newt Gingrich, the Republicans had an ALTERNATIVE. It wasn't simply "The Dems are corrupt", it was also "We have a plan". Maybe Kerry was wrong on SS, due to the timing, but on Iraq, he is right. I just think it's wrong to wait around hoping your opponents lose, and only THEN think about how to solve the nation's problems.

Maybe I'm (and Kerry along with me) naive, but I don't appreciate such a cynical strategy. This is what Kerry learned last year -- it's not enough for people to vote against someone. They have to vote FOR someone or FOR a party. True, Kerry has been one of *'s harshest critics this year. But he's also given us an alternative reality of how Dems would do it DIFFERENTLY. THAT'S what makes me excited about voting Dem. ABB didn't cut it last year, and ABR (anybody but a Republican) ain't going to work in '06 without clear signs that the Dems are prepared to lead.

10. Should we be writing that to Dean and Emmanuel?
We're at a different vantage point and they may not see what we do. Their answers, that the DEMOCRATS don't have a plan comes across as weak and negligent and it doesn't lead to a feeling of gee, I should become an active Democrat. That several Democrats have offered plans into the marketplace of ideas and they want these ideas and the Republican ones to be the basis of a national discussion, would make a much better talking point.

Also, someone in the DNC should be responsible for keeping current where top Dems are on issues. Then when Dean or some surrogate are going on TV, they should get briefing summaries. It's harder than Melman's job as he need know only Bush's position, but the DNC should represent all the Dems. It shouldn't just be Dean's position and misinformation on others.

12. He was very critical of Bush
for having no exit plan, and did seem to support Murtha's, but what made me angry was how he bashed the Democratic Party as a whole. Matthews cherry picks and distorts the facts to suit his own agenda, and he's two-faced as hell. He deliberately failed to mention that other Democrats besides Murtha have exit strategies.

I think I'll send Matthews an email.

14. Could it be semantics - that Matthews (like some here)
sees everything, but leave now as "stay the course" instead of an exit strategy? Also, they distorting Murtha as well, he's saying 6 months. They should be looking at substanitive differences beyond comparing the numbers.

I think Kerry needs a smarter country and media.

15. He's out to make some $$$. He'll say whatever to make HIMSELF look good
all the talking heads on the media want to sound more informed than politicians or the public. If tweety was so concerned he'd get of his ass and prepare an exit plan for Iraq :eyes:

18. Matthews is a complete political whore
He says whatever he thinks will work best for him at the moment. If he did that interview with Kerry, then said the Dems don't have any plan to get out of Iraq, he is either stupid or lying.

19. You hit the nail on the head.
Tweety is back to being Tweety. The moratorium on the nickname is over: the amount of respect I give him is directly proportional to the amount of respect he gives Senator Kerry. Media whore is a apt description. Never ever trust someone like him. While he is enamored of our government and our institutions, he has no respect for individuals, any individuals. He's got a nasty streak in that he likes to tear people down, especially when they are on top or when they are on the bottom. The only way you fare well with Tweety is by being so mediocre you're simply not worth his efforts.

While he was respectful to Senator Kerry in the interview, it was primarily because of the Senator's adeptness in being able manipulating the situation. Tweety has a sense of self-importance that he can only fulfill by proximity to those who actually are important or by taking those who are important down a peg. While Wolf Blitzer looked a bit annoyed to be in Senator Kerry's office, Tweety acted like he was invited to the Sistine Chapel instead of the Hill.

Whore is the word for him.
