David Shuster declares next week John Kerry Appreciation Week
For those of you in western time zones, check out MSNBC, "1600 Pennsylvania Ave" (6 pm Eastern, check your local listings). About 1/2 way through tonight's show (Jan 9), David Shuster noted how JK will lead confirmation hearings for Hillary for SoS, "a job he once wanted". How he went out a limb to endorse Obama when no one else did, how Hillary fought O to the end, how Biden didn't endorse Obama basically until he'd clinched the nomination, etc. Then a poster appeared of JK with a heart. . "We (heart) John Kerry", and declared next week John Kerry appreciation week.

Tomorrow, full transcript will be available at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3719710/. Hopefully, also, there will be a video snippet soon at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23580538/.

Maybe I missed something, but, really I didn't detect snark in Shuster's delivery. He wasn't as gooey as perhaps one of us would be, but, well, go see for yourself. I'd love to know what other people think.

3. Tweety, Keith and Rachel talked about it too.
Keith really praised John Kerry. I hope some of you watched it.
He was talking about how Kerry endorsed Obama over Clinton (something I was not very happy about at the time :P Kerry was right. I was wrong.) How Kerry should've been picked for SoS and now he is the head of the committee that will recommend Hillary for SoS. Keith was saying how he thought Kerry was such a great guy. It really made me smile :loveya:

4. Just caught today's ep.
Definitely snarky and silly-looking, but it doesn't seem like a mean-spirited idea overall. I'll be interested to see what happens.

Kerry appreciation week

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor January 9, 2009 06:37 PM

Ouch, talk about damning with faint praise.

One of MSNBC's stable of political talk shows announced this evening that all next week will be "John Kerry Appreciation Week."

David Shuster, the new host of "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," which airs at 6 p.m. EST, pointed out that Kerry had to watch mostly from the sidelines while Barack Obama won the presidency -- which Kerry failed to do in 2004. Shuster also pointed out that Tuesday, he will be presiding as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee over the confirmation hearing of Hillary Clinton for secretary of state -- the job he probably really coveted.

The cable network showed a calendar with the week blocked out, plus a photo of Kerry surrounded by little red hearts.

"All together now, Senator Kerry, we appreciate you," said Shuster, which seems a little harsh, since Kerry has been a frequent guest on MSNBC shows.

The Globe once again finds a way to surpass itself in douchebaggery (to quote Jon Stewart).

...but it's so confused, I don't even understand it! What a waste of ink. :-)
