SENATE PANEL WILL AIR
OIL SPILL, SAFETY ISSUES
WASHINGTON - The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation will hold a two-part hearing today on the Valdez oil spill cleanup and on issues concerning oil spill prevention and maritime regulation.
The first part of the hearing will focus on the response, containment and cleanup of the Exxon Valdez spill that occurred March 24 in Alaska's Price William Sound. Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass., vice chairman of the National Ocean Policy Study, will preside.
In the afternoon, Sen. John Breaux, D-La., chairman of the panel's subcommittee on merchant marine, will chair a review of tanker safety issues, including pending legislative proposals.
Just an FYI. We get comments in here that Kerry is jumping on a bandwagon being steered by others. Not so. This
1989 hearing on the Exxon Valdez spill off the Alaska coastline was chaired by Sen. John Kerry.
This is the schedule for this as listed on c-span.org

Again, no big deal here, but this goes to showing how far back that commitment to environmental issues goes back and how long Kerry has been a leader in this effort.
