Anyone remember Space 1999?
I was a fan when i was a little kid. I didn't see the show for many years. When it came out on DVD, i bought a few episodes. It's not as good as i remember....Oh well.

1. those were the days.
Let us all give a moment of silence for 70s sci-fi tv...

Space 1999
Battlestar Galactica
Buck Rogers
Bionic woman
Six million dollar man
Wonder Woman

alas, we knew them well...

6. Watched all of those shows!
Pretty much watched anything that was sci fi back in the 70s.

2. Yup. Hokey as hell, but I watched every episode.
Thought about getting the DVDs... then I remembered those Rudi Geinreich (sp?) polyester outfits... and the sheer implausibility of the whole premise, that I decided against it.

I watched ANY SF I could find on TV, no matter how bad.

U.F.O.
Space 1999
Battlestar Galactica
Buck Rogers

Even anthology stuff, like Night Gallery and so on.

I remember commenting once to a former spouse, "Sitcoms, cop shows, lawyer shows, doctor shows... there isn't anything else!"

3. I used to love Space 1999,
I can even remember the theme music. My older brother used to always call it "Space Big Numbers".

4. Lots of fond memories...
I guess I wasn't old enough then
to know how campy it all was.

U.F.O., Six Million Dollar Man...
those were the days.

5. Spot on.
I loved it when I was a kid, but I think I liked the toys better. I rented it when it came out and sort of was aghast at how bad it was.

8. Yeah, but when I was a kid...
...I used to drool over those 1999 metal cast toys in the high end toy store that I couldn't afford.

9. Tell me about it!
I SO wanted one of those Corgi model Eagles. No way I could afford one though, at that age.

They even had the cargo variant, with the nuclear waste bins.

Alas...

11. I loved that show
Haven't seen it in years. I suspect that you are right, it will not live up to the image created in the mind of a ten year old.

13. I had..
A toy eagle and action figures and everything. I even had a record album (you know the prehistoric ancestor to CD's) with some Space:1999 stories on it.

14. Never saw it when young,
but we bought he DVDs when they came out, for completeness' sake. Pretty poorly done, but there are some solid ideas scattered around: the imbecilic politician cheats to get the chance to go back to Earth, but it all goes wrong when he wakes up in the "long sleep" chamber is the one that first comes to mind. And one of my perennial faves, Brian Blessed, is in two episodes :-)

15. I used to watch it obsessively
I'll have to make it a point to rent the dvds and jog my memories, see if I still enjoy it.

It did start my life-long obsession with Martin Landau.
