holy war
I got a question.

The religious have been itching for a crusade.Lets be honest that what a culture war IS.

Just today a lesbian couple was beaten with bats and we all know bible based religion has a big hand in stoking homophobia in places like Kansas hate comes straight from the pulpits out there it's called religion.
In Africa fears of witchcraft (the bible again)make parents kill by bashing newborns heads on tree trunks if they are not born face up head first. Fear of witchcraft is old as time..But I also know churches who sell hate and fear and rapture have deep pockets and scores of missionaries in Africa and elsewhere selling that book of toxins all over the world..Washing brains in exchange for a bit of food..

The church has been doing these convert and control campaigns called"missionary work" over diverse villages and towns in poor areas for centuries.Organized religion is not spiritual it's MATERIAL and it wants control.Sometimes these so called holy folk have killed villagers who refuse to go with their program before. It happened here in America and it happens in private houses and back rooms even today.Zack a gay teen is being forced to not be gay because his parent=owners want a straight kid and have sent him to a brainwashing hospital so Jesus will accept him.

Liberal Christians are still addicted to the book still want to believe Jesus is good and God loves them even when the world presents a very different picture of religion's influences than they hold dear. So the fear of god still has a hold on them even though they will DENY god is a monster and the bible is about a storybook monster that says it loves them, they still believe god has power in the real world and they hope and have faith. They are not willing to see past their own beliefs yet..And they cannot see for long religion, spirituality and church is a false front for so much organized abuse, control and crime. They cannot handle much cognitive dissonance.

Meanwhile
The more militant of churches are thirsting for blood.
Blood of people like US.
Heathens Atheists,agnostics,gays,trans-people, people who are"lukewarm about religion(liberals)witches, people of other faiths, we are all targets of biblical based hate because the bible says so and the true believers will follow Jesus wherever he leads to get their rewards. These believers are so obedient to their book, the church leader and they know how to use a gun,a bat,..They are terrorists dragging crosses in homeland security garb, suit and tie,or jeans and t shirts, with Farrakhan bow-ties ,with tattoos and harleys..The religious right cuts across all classes and it is a organized network ready to impose kingdom now.
1 in 24 people it has been said has some form of sociopath.
1 in 4 people in america has a mental illness which means stress or their thinking process could be manipulated by clever evangelists.
But luckily alot of people have been traumatized by religion so they are more inoculated against memetic infections.
In a populated country like ours that's a BIG chunk of people to worry about when the saints come knocking down your door and marching in sticking assault rifles in your face because they suspect you are a witch, and think you have a gay lover hiding under your bed,and they suspect your sister didn't report her termination of pregnancy.
How long until they send us off to be churched at Guantanamo for God?

So how long do you think it will be until the pastors take off the leashes holding their faithful fanatic and vicious congregations in check? How long until the army of"true believers" decide to clean up the streets because obviously congress has no morals and the activist judges in DC are godless?

I think Terri Shiavo fiasco was a litmus test for evangelical combat readiness.Church Militias were itching to"save" her ,ambulances driven by Christians were ready to take her into hiding. These assholes camped out making a scene and they make Michael Shiavo into a scapegoat.

How long until these biblical pigs gird up with their armor of god and come after us..?

And how many of us DARE to think this could happen in America..and is ANYONE hear ready to stop a crusade? And who is prepared to halt the dark ages from coming again.
I think things are getting crazy..believers think and economically they are getting shafted by secular government. The churches have infiltrated so many secular institutions, yet they convince believing people they are powerless to make the government change..even when they infiltrate it the devil has power.

Churches and true believers are everywhere, rude, brash, mouthy hateful, vicious and self righteous. Ready to blow up.They still wear their nice, but it takes less challenges to bring out the mean than ever before..Look at how aggressive they are.Things were not like this in the year 2000,in 1989. Something is changing and how will we fight it when it comes to a head and boils over? these people are crazy and liberal as usual cannot take the challenge because these people do not want compromise,to live and let live they want to dominate us all and win the culture crusade and deliver the world dead or alive and converted for their jesus...They are like the Necromongers in the Chronicles of Riddick movie.

How long can the country take the fever of church driven political hate and the desire for rapture and rule before the believers snap the pastors take off the leash and the believers go for blood so jesus will come back NOW?All while the liberal Christians quaking for fear of god because they believe, say don't blame jesus the bible or his church...And people do not fight the organization cloaked within the church wearing a good guy badge like a shield.

1. It's hard to divine motives
I grew up in a fundamentalist church that supported missionaries in South America and Africa. In fact my Dad wanted to be a missionary. The motives behind missionary work back then were many and varied. Underneath it all is the fact that most devout xtians are deeply insecure. I think the idea of saving heathen souls for Christ was an affirmation of the rightness of their religion (we must be right if other people embrace our religion). Some of the missionaries may have gotten their rocks of at being gushed over by admiring church members on their frequent visit back to their sponsoring churches. On the other hand I know some missionaries honestly believed they were helping the people. I don't know how much this has changed since my days in the church.

Your points about the hate being generated in churches and the possible rise in it's militancy make sense, especially when you realize that many of these people are are deeply insecure. They desperately NEED rules to live by and they desperately need to believe they're right, that they are winners, the chosen, that they will have life after death. Most of all, they don't want to think, they want someone to tell them what is right, and they want to know it's from God. Their insecurity drives them to hate, and cynical religious leaders have begun to tap into this hate and are covertly encouraging it, and their churches are growing (and their salaries and prestige has grown as well).

In the past these people (and I was once one of them) were kept in check by the scorn of the general population, but the Republicans have found that angry, insecure, non-thinking people make great supporters, so instead of being kept in check, these people are growing angrier, possibly to the point of violence.

Personally I think the country is going to rebel against these sad , angry fundies, and laugh them back under their rocks, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it!
