I was amazed that I was able to laugh all the way through. I'm sure everyone on this forum would enjoy it immensely. Bill Mahr cares deeply about the intellectual disconnect (He calls it what it is: insane) in this country and gets some great, goofy interviews. From a Trucker's Chapel in NC to a Theme Park Jesus in FL to the Vatican to Jerusalem to a wacko rabbi in Monsey, NY he maintains his composure and sense of humor while poking giant holes in various religious philosophies. He also makes a plea to the 16% of people in this country who are not religious or are 'soft' or social Xtians to come out of the closet and stand up for what you really (don't) believe. We went to the 1 PM Sunday performance and were surprised at the number of seniors yukking it up in the audience. Definietly worth seeing! Maybe twice!
I'm originally from Oklahoma. I had to cross picket lines there to see "Jesus Christ Superstar" (which I would not have seen if NOT for the picket lines) and to see The Sex Pistols a decade later. Not that "JCS" is a favorite play or that Sex Pistols are my favorite musical act, I just figured that if the Xtians were against it, I better support them or else acts that rubbed wrong against the Xtian grain would never get booked in my town again. I'm a little pervy that way... I REALLY love NY. I've been here more than 29 years so far and will stay as long as I can afford to live here.
I'm glad I saw the Sex Pistols, too. I think it was their first (and only) US tour with the original band. I'm pretty sure it was in '78. Where does the time go? We're ALL geezers now!
I went Friday afternoon (not a busy time for the local theater I went to), and noticed that most of the few other people seeing it were senior citizens, and getting a good laugh out of it.
Hilarious, though the ending scared me... :scared:
well that was certainly enjoyable (although there was certainly some disturbing moments, like the interview with the senator from Arkansas) :) I'm not a big Bill Maher fan not a hater either, but he really nailed it with this one and I got a lot of laughs out of it.
His closing monologue was very good too in a serious way.
I wish this could (would) be seen by everyone in America.
