algore.org is back
Spread the word and check it out for yourself. www.algore.org (AGO) has a new posting today talking about the possibility of a Gore solution to the Dems problems, if they keep destroying themselves in the primaries. They's linked to a lot of the recent columns and blogs we've all already seen and that were posted at the draftgore.com site a week or so ago. I've already commented on the AGO posting, urging them to start collecting info. and state-by-state names of folks who would be willing to contact super delegates if it comes to that. The comments I posted are no more than I've already said in private e-mails to the folks at AGO, but, hopefully with people "dropping in" on that site, it might get folks in the mood to start getting ready for the letter writing if it comes to that.

In the meantime, I know several of you are starting research on contact information of supers in your states and getting in touch with as many friends as possible to enlist them in letter writing if needed. Hopefully, we could dump all that information into a central national repository, such as AGO if they decide to move that way. Related to this, I think some of you have also already written to Dean, et. al. as I have. Haven't heard anything back yet, but it's early.

1. Rod,
I am scared to hope but, hope I do. Hope is all we have left. I know it is a "catch" word of another candidate...I wish I could believe. I really do.

2. I signed up at AGO and
started compiling my list of IL super delegates. I am going to wait until after the PA primary before I send anything off to them. I think we here are rightfully concerned about the upcoming brokered convention but I don't think that concern has spread as widely yet as it just may after PA.

I haven't worked out my wording yet but it will contain something along the lines of... if there is no clear nominee after the first ballot, please know that this Illinoisan is supportive of a Gore vote on the second ballot. I have had amazing luck with handwritten postcards and am thinking of doing that with this. Anything handwritten is rare these days and a postcard will get thru the mail security issues at state and federal offices faster than a letter sealed in an envelop.

3. I agree about the handwritten letter...
I volunteered for the Dean campaign way back when and wrote to a couple of NH voters before their primary. I received email responses from both of them.

I had already decided to spend this Sunday composing a letter and writing out several copies. I didn't think about postcards, but the security issue is a good point. I guess I'll just have to write smaller.

4. I was thinking that if they are super delegates
they may or should be already aware of what's coming and what the issues are. If I have to educate them and bring them up to speed, I should be the super delegate and they should stay home. :)

I wrote a short and sweet postcard earlier this winter to my republican reps re the NIU-inspired gun control initiative in our state house. Much to my surprise, my state senator called me on the phone to discuss what I thought needed to happen. :wow:

5. We seem to have a real buzz going now.
As I may have mentioned elsewhere (I can't keep track of what I write where and when - just a sign of creeping old age coming at me) both AGO and draftgore.com will be receptive to any research we can provide them on contact info. on the supers. And, I think everyone is in agreement that it is too early to mount a major letter writing campaign now. But, as I think we all also realize, it's not too early to get the contact information ready and in the hands of the folks with the national web sites. So, good to see that happening.

I hadn't thought of the post card idea either. Interesting! I'm still waiting to see if I get any response from Dean, et.al. from the letters I sent out about a week ago. In an earlier response to me from Catgirl in MA, she thought a lot of the Obama-Gore conversations might be trying to get Gore to come out and endorse him and put him (Obama) over the top with the supers. That is certainly one possibility, although we probably all hope for the other - that they are discussing how they can "sell" a Gore/Obama ticket to the supers and the Obama supporters. I do think Obama gave a brilliant speech this week on the racial issue, but I'm not sure that's going to convince some of the pick-up truck/gun rack Reagan democrats to come to Obama in the general election in November (as they haven't been flocking to him in the primaries). Don't know how many of them there are out there, and whether they will vote for McCain or stay home if their only other option is Obama. And, don't know whether this is playing any part in some of the supers looking at the (apparently) deadlocked race as it heads to the Convention.

So many questions, so few answers.

6. I LOVE that postcard idea!
Very, very smart.

It saves on postage, too.

I think I'll look at doing my next round of mailings that way. I also like what you say about figuring the super delegates should know what's going on.

Thanks for the good ideas!
