TUCSON, Ariz. — A Tucson-based Army National Guard field artillery unit has been disbanded after Guard officials determined there were too many active-duty National Guard and reserve units specializing in field artillery.

State officials broke up the Bravo Battery of the 2-180th Field Artillery Battalion along with all other field artillery units in the state.

The battalion had consisted of about 350 soldiers.

The Guard was replacing the Tucson battery with a military police unit from Casa Grande so local Guard personnel won’t be without a job, said Maj. Paul Aguirre, an Arizona Army National Guard spokesman.
