Two Navy Sailors Fatally Shot

Two Navy Sailors Fatally Shot
Associated Press | October 22, 2007

CAIRO, Egypt - A U.S. Navy Sailor allegedly shot and killed two female Sailors early Monday in the barracks of a American military base in Bahrain, a Navy official said.

The alleged shooter, a male, was critically wounded in the shooting at the U.S. Naval Support Activity Bahrain base, said the Navy official, who was not authorized to release the information to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official did not say if the alleged shooter shot himself or if anyone else was involved, but the Navy said the shooting was not terror related and only involved U.S. military personnel.

The shootings took place around 5 a.m., the Navy said. Officials closed the base temporarily and reopened it about an hour later.

No other details were immediately available, and the Navy said it was not releasing the names of those involved until their families were notified.

"The incident is under investigation, and it would not be prudent to discuss details at this time," said Navy spokesman Lt. John Gay.

1.  Hmm. Advances spurned by lesbian sailors? Love triangle?
I wonder what motivated the poor disturbed fellow to do something so horrible.

4. Inside information by 14738391 of military dot com
In this Forum, a person claims this inside info:

"my sister lives in the barracks those women were shot at. One was a really good friend of hers *she just called me* she told me he had no weapons on him when he went pass security but that he did use one of thier guns. and that one of the girls was the shooters gf and he had just found out that she was cheating again with the other girl that was shot. My sister was one of the first people to the scene, being less than 12 feet from her door, and said it looked like he came in the front door made the 2nd girl get on her knees with hands behind her head and shot her in the back of the head then his gf walked out of the bathroom and he shot her in the left eye b4 attempting to kill himself. Shes really upset over it!! they all had to roam around base till they found a house with any room."

5. And the Navy Time reported this morning
Sailors fatally shot in Bahrain identified

By Andrew Scutro - Staff writer
Posted : Tuesday Oct 23, 2007 19:21:10 EDT

The Navy has identified the two female sailors shot to death in Bahrain on Monday, reportedly by a fellow sailor.

Killed were Master at Arms Seaman Apprentice Anamarie Sannicolas Camacho, 20, of Panama City, Fla. and Master at Arms Seaman Genesia Mattril Gresham, 19, of Lithonia, Ga., in what’s described as “a non-combat related incident.”

The third sailor has not been identified but suffered what was described as a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” and was hospitalized. The shootings occurred in the early morning Monday.

Gresham and Camacho were assigned to Naval Support Activity Bahrain, home of U.S. 5th Fleet. Both enlisted in 2006.

According to information released by 5th Fleet public affairs, “initial indications are the three sailors were acquainted, but the extent of their relationships and the details of the shootings are still under investigation.”

“The incident is under investigation, and it would not be prudent to discuss details at this time,” Navy spokesman Lt. John Gay told the Associated Press.

Call me silly, but I'll bet the ubiquitous investigators are pretty fucking busy. At least 1/2 the articles I read are 'under investigation.'

6. Clearest story thus far is from Saipan

SOURCE: http://www.saipantribune.com/newsstory.aspx?newsID=73561&cat=1

The Navy declined to release the names of those involved, saying their families had not been notified. However, Jovy San Nicolas Paulino of Tinian confirmed that one of the victims was her daughter, Anamarie San Nicolas Camacho, 20.

Paulino said her other daughter, Joana Lynn San Nicolas-Killoren, called her early yesterday morning to tell her that Camacho was killed by a fellow Navy inside the barracks of an American military base in Bahrain... ...Camacho's remains are expected to arrive on Monday. Paulino said her daughter's memorial service is set the following day, “hopefully with full military honors.”

...Paulino said she could still remember her daughter's face, especially the big smile she had. “She always had big smiles. She was an individual who was filled with so much energy,” she said, her voice trembling during a phone interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday.

She described Camacho as a joyful child. Paulino recalled that it was her daughter's decision to join the Navy two years ago. She said her daughter knew that getting into college was expensive, so she chose to join the Navy right after graduating from the Tinian Jr. and Sr. High School to get a degree. “She always tried to do things on her own. She was an independent child,” Paulino said.
