WICHITA, Kan. — Officials at McConnell Air Force Base say the vice commander of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing was found dead in his home on the Kansas base.

Col. Michael V. Krueger died Tuesday of unknown causes. The 47-year-old officer came to McConnell in May 2008.

He previously served as chief of the programs division at Headquarters Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Col. James Vechery, the 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander, says in a news release that Krueger epitomized the wingman concept as he was always by his side. He says he was his confidant, mentor and friend.

Krueger leaves behind two sons and his widow.

3. Maybe these higher ups are getting an OK at check-up time?
That CG man in Portsmouth was also very young. Could be with the decrease of higher ranks that the service is just pushing their check-ups to keep them in the service. I believe I read they let down standards for the lower rates to get them in the service. I would not be shocked, if that is what they did, as Bush has got his 'ways' into all the govt. after 8 years. It is hard to clean it up.
