Nine Suspected Pirates Set Free

Weeks after two Norfolk-based ships captured more than a dozen suspected pirates in two separate raids, the Navy returned nine Somali men to their lawless homeland on Monday.

Seven others remain in U.S. hands and could be transferred to Kenya for prosecution.

A defense official said the nine men were moved off the Lewis and Clark, a Navy supply ship that served as a floating brig for the Navy's newly created anti-piracy task force.

A coast guard vessel from Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region ferried the men to shore, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The nine were captured Feb. 12 after a merchant ship reported gunshots and requested help fending off a pirate attack in the Gulf of Aden.

1. As punishment, they should just start placing the captured pirates

in the water, and allow the ships they attempted to 'jack to fire bullets at them as they frantically attempt to swim to shore.

have been killed or harmed? Your plan would be considered murder under international law.

3. I'm not really actually advocating that they be made to swim

back to shore under a hail of gunfire.

However, I am in favor of warships sinking Pirates with Harpoon missiles.

expend a a $1,000,000 missle to sink a $500.00 boat. That is what 5"54 DP guns are for. Cost of a 5" projectile is about $250.00
