10th Mountain brigade begins arriving home

FORT POLK, La. — The first soldiers from the Army’s 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, have begun returning home after a 13-month tour in Iraq.

Samantha Evans, a public information officer for Fort Polk, said the brigade of about 3,600 soldiers is expected back by mid-January.

She said the brigade’s mission included security and patrols in the Baghdad area and working with the Iraqi national police. She said this was the first time the unit had deployed as a whole.

The unit is not expected to be redeployed for at least 12 months, per Army policy, she said.
