Staff report

Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey on Wednesday will hold a special “Twilight Tattoo,” the Army’s most popular outdoor ceremonial pageant, to celebrate the service’s 233rd birthday.

The event will begin at 7:15 p.m. at Whipple Field, Fort Myer, Va. The event will be moved to Conmy Hall if there is inclement weather.

The Army’s birthday is Saturday.

Twilight Tattoo is an hourlong sunset military pageant that features soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Regiment, also known as the Old Guard. Soldiers from the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the Army Drill Team, vocalists from the Army Chorus and the Army Band Downrange are expected to participate.

More than 100 Old Guard soldiers wearing uniforms from the past and present will provide a journey through Army history, culminating with the Army’s ongoing involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
