Hundreds of graves disturbed at final resting site for many famous blacks

ALSIP, Ill. - Three gravediggers and a cemetery manager unearthed hundreds of corpses from a historic black cemetery south of Chicago, dumping some in a weeded area and double-stacking others in existing graves, in an elaborate scheme to resell the plots, authorities said Thursday. All four were charged with felonies.

Frantic relatives of the deceased descended on Burr Oak Cemetery — the final resting place of lynching victim Emmett Till and blues singers Willie Dixon and Dinah Washington — in hopes someone could tell them their loved ones' remains were not among the pile of bones that littered a remote area of the property in Alsip, 12 miles south of Chicago.

Some found apparently undisturbed plots, but others wandered, unable to locate loved ones.

2. I have been absolutely sickened by this...

My parents, my sister, grandmother on my father's side, and a host of aunts and uncles are buried there. My brother was able to check on my parents and my sister, but the rest are in the older section we are concerned about. I really can't allow my mind to think to deeply about it. Just the thought,...:cry:

God, this makes me sick. Like I said, there is a special place in Hell for the deranged psychotics who did this. I am so sorry your family has to go through this.

6. Update...

My younger sister was able to register with the investigation but we've heard nothing yet. We're worried for my grandmother, and the area my sister is in. It was across from baby land and while her grave looks okay, the area around it has orange cones everywhere. I'm hoping it wasn't a double stack for her. This is so sickening...I tried to go out last night and listen to some live music but my mind kept going places it shouldn't.

8. My brother and sister went out and checked on every family

members grave site and they were all in undisturbed areas. We still registered the names with the crime investigators but haven't heard anything. I still worry for my sister...she's been there since 2005 and my ignorant ex-brother in law has her very close to the area that was disturbed. I just hope she wasn't placed on top of someone else.

Is there any way that you could find if your sister was laid to rest on top of someone else?? If she was, you should find your ex-brother in law and make him pay for ANOTHER funeral.
