New Mechwarrior game CONFIRMED

Via IGN:

MechWarrior Revealed
Smith and Tinker and Piranha Games are working on a full reboot of the acclaimed franchise.
by IGN PC Team

US, July 8, 2009 - MechWarrior fans have been hoping, praying and anticipating a new game in the famed franchise ever since the last expansion pack for MechWarrior 4 was released in 2002. Now, seven years later, their prayers have been answered. IGN has the very first details about MechWarrior reboot that is currently in production at Smith and Tinker and Piranha games. Yes, that's right, reboot. Instead of this game becoming MechWarrior 5, the developers have decided to completely re-launch the entire franchise, calling this new title MechWarrior.

We spoke to the two main players involved with MechWarrior. First there's Jordan Weisman, co-founder of Smith and Tinker and co-founder of FASA, the company that created the BattleTech universe that MechWarrior is based upon. Second is Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games. (For an in-depth discussion of the reboot and how it fits in the franchise, check out our exclusive interview.)

W00T! I've been hoping for this for some years now. Notem, this is not a sequel, but a reboot of the franchise. Oh, and they're also going to be giving away Mechwarrior 4 and all expensions FOR FREE via the BattleTech site in the near future.

:wow:

2. My my , so dark age is dead
and the board game, they managed to salvage their rights I see.

Don't ask, too much crap.

Me, I am not in. Haven't played much of their crap for years... nor intent to give them a three dollar bill.

Just find the games the gaming industry plays just unfrigging amazing.

No rules, no dice, but plenty of sharp blades

:-)

Lets just say makes any bad blood in the games you play look ahem mild.

3. Nice!
There is a trailer for it on youtube:

I remember the first game of this type I ever played, Iron Soldier on the Atari Jaguar, it was a pretty sweet game. It had these guided missiles and when you shot them, the camera moved from your mech to the rocket and you controlled it, lotsa fun :D

4. I hope the gameplay looks like that.
Did I recognize a Rifleman and an Atlas? A Catapult too?

5. I don't remember where I got the link...
Maybe Blues News... Not sure. And I hate to say it but I have not watched it :D My laptop does not like videos, hahahahaha. I do recall that it was described as a mix of in-game and cut scene clips though, I'm sure of that :D

6. It was an Atlas and a Warhammer, I think

If you watch the reveal trailer again, look in the lower-right corner; it says "In game footage". Since they're using the Unreal Engine 3, I think it's safe to say that, yes, the game itself will look like that. Never mind the obviously scripted exterior shot cuts, it's safe to say those were prerendered, but still....

(Keep in mind, The Last Remnant also uses UE3, and all the cutscenes are rendered in-game. UE3 is a very powerful engine, and I'm already sure it can produce the level of visuals shown in the reveal trailer.)

The whole announcement makes me want to touch myself in my many naughty places. Mechwarrior 4, and all the expansions- free? Plus a new Mechwarrior game?

Special. Bought, day one.

7. This is best news I've heard since Obama was elected.
MW4 was my favorite computer/video game of all time, and I've been around since pong. My best buddy and I used to compete in the NetBattleTech league and had a blast. :)

All I can say is thank the lord that Mechwarrior is back where it belongs with the creator of Battletech.
