Green tomatoes! YEAH!!!!
Edited on Sun May-10-09 02:06 PM by K8-EEE
Excitement! That means the red ones are just around the corner...so close and yet so far!

I get so impatient this time of year, the basil is ready but not the tomatoes!

1. I know what you mean
I've got tons of romas, just aching for them to turn red, but not all at once! lol! :)

2. Sorry to disappoint but....
Romas are determinate type tomatoes. That means they only grow so tall and usually ripen pretty much at the same time, especially the roma types.

4. So if you had only Romas you plant them at different times?
Is that how you do it? I have Early Girl, Better Boy, Roma, Golden Boy, Sweet 100 and a yellow grape variety.

5. I guess you could
I have always planted Romas just so we could have a few fresh for pizza and the rest I blanch, de-skin, and freeze for winter soups, sauces etc.

3. I'm jealous
My tomatoes are still small plants. I put a few in the ground and the rest are still getting aclimatized to the outdoors on the back porch.

This is the first week that is not projected to go below 50 degrees at night -- a temp that supposedly stunts tomato growth.
