What House rules over jobs/careers?
I'm looking at my chart at Astro.com and I am wondering what House rules over jobs.

Thanks in advance!

4. Also look at the planet ruling the 10th
and where it resides in your chart for career direction. For example, if Mercury ruled your 10th and was in the 3rd house, writing or communications would be a good consideration....if Mercury was in the 5th, real estate, exploring your creativity or "matchmaking" abilities would be worth looking into....if in the 6th, a health-care worker, public servant or something associated with pets would be areas for consideration.....etc.

6. what do you think 8th house would indicate
and please don't say undertaker or tax collector ;-) (Jupiter in Libra 8th house, Sagittarius on the 10th house cusp.) That's my chart and it always confuses me.

I see 6th house as 'just a job', not a career. For instance I have pluto, mercury, venus conjunct in 6th house virgo and I do web development as a 'day job'. I see it this way: designing (venus) with words and numbers (mercury), i.e. web development and pluto gives me the obsessiveness it seems to take to do that sort of work. But I'd rather figure out what the 8th house Jupiter (conjunct Moon & Neptune) in the 8th means, because I think that would indicate Vocation.

PS. to the OP. Also consider what sign the ruling planet of the 10th occupies - for career direction.

7. Lots of choices
My first reaction to Jupiter/Moon/Neptune in the 8th is that you're a natural-born psychic and would make an exceptional "reader" whatever metahysical area you chose.

The 8th also represents joint finances so vocations associated with credit (as a counselor, for example) insurance or banking would fit in here too.

Then again, the 8th has a lot to do with sex, and if you're so inclined, you could easily become the next Heidi Fleiss!

9. you could easily become the next Heidi Fleiss!
LOL

well... a friend of mine who's a pro-dom asked me to work with her and i *did* consider it for about 5 minutes ;-)

i'd rather peel off my own skin than work in the finance or insurance industry.

and it's true that i do tarot readings professionally but it would never pay the bills. nor would i want it to.

I think when looking at a chart for career choices (or whatever) you need to look at the chart holistically. You need to consider not only what house the ruler of the 10th is in but also the sign. And *also* where the ruler of *that* sign is located. And then you need to synthesize all this info. That's what make astrology an art.

In my chart for instance the ruler of the 10th is in 8th house Libra and actually my vocation is painting - and my subject matter tends toward the 'occult', qabala, and sex. <shameless self promotion> http://www.kineta.org </end shamelessness>

Now my question is how to see whether it's possible to make a living from 10th house talents - that's the place where I think you see a person's true calling. Which they may, or may not, be able to make money from. What do the astrologers think?

~k

ps. to LunaC - I wasn't directing the above paragraph about synthesizing info in charts at you. I know from your posts that you're a very good astrologer.

21. what a fun answer -
actually she was a very good business woman with high profile customers. Taking that energy and putting it into something more appropriate and acceptable to society while still being fun - in a sense reengineer the idea of what heidi fleiss did -

kinda of like taking roller skates and making them rollerblades and you have a lot of people doing something they would not have done and have a good time at it

11. I'm sorry, but how can Mercury rule
my 10th house and be in my 3rd house? In my 3rd house I have Saturn.

13. simple
The planet which rules the sign on the house cusp rules that house.

example, let's say you have Saturn in Aries in the 3rd - Mars rules Aries so therefore Mars rules the 3rd house, even though Saturn is located there.

28. It was a hypothetical
I didn't say it WAS in your 3rd house, I said IF if was.....

I was giving you EXAMPLES of how a 10th house rulership might play out in different houses.

5. 10th & 6th
10th for career. 6th for job issues, co-workers, work conditions, stuff like that. To some extent 2nd house - shows how you make your money.

do you have a specific question, like what work you're best suited for, or finding a job?

8. This is known as the Earth Triplicity.
2nd house correlates to Taurus (physical pleasures, aquisition).
6th house correlates to Virgo (detail oriented, selfless service).
10th house correlates to Capricorn (ambition, organization).

"Triplicity" is apparently a reference to "Trine" (aspect), i.e., "Tri-"

19. Let me guess
you are much more of a social creature than someone invested in their career?

not having planets in a house doesn't mean the house matters don't exist. But houses with planets will have more emphasis and those areas will hold more interest (or issues). Triple for houses with 3 planets in them. So you have an interesting push-pull thing going on between self and others.

20.  like going and doing and short meetings
with depth with people - but not long relationships - they lose their luster - I like fun - love travel - did a 3month camping trip around the country 30 years ago - that was the best - met lots of people and then moved on - I like the idea of being a gypsy - going from place to place

LOL

aq rising 2 degrees
pisces on 2nd
cancer on 6th
scorpio on 10th

7th has the saturn/pluto within 7 degrees
and moon/mars conj within 3 degrees

1st has sun, mecury (aq), venus (pisces) this is a long house from beginning of aq to middle of pisces

Reading the simplified versions that show up here sometimes is fun
I have used the astro site
and have had reading many years ago

I just like the idea if I had no planets - there isn't a job for me - does feel that way at times :):)

27. yeah, that combo seems like it could hold some real power struggles
especially with the sun in the first and pluto/saturn opposite in the 7th. and mars too? ouch. sounds like you have often been on the wrong end of the stick as it were. but it's good that you say that now you push back. sounds like you're working out the issues. i guess ultimately we attract people to help us work those things out, even though in truth the issue is usually something internal. i'd venture that the ultimate goal is to find the right balance between considering yourself and considering others, knowing where your boundaries are and all that.

10. Yes, I'm trying to find a new career path.
Currently, I'm a stay-at-home mom. Prior to that I was a secretary/admin assistant.

I have 3 planets in my 10th house; Pluto, Uranus and Mercury.

The secretarial thing wasn't what I really wanted to do, but my parents kinda pushed me in that direction. They really raised me to be a "mom". So, here I am, 40 years old, and wondering what I will do when my children leave the house.

16. secretary - not surprising really with Virgo on the 10th
- except that my guess is that you were *way* more ambitious than that. Do you enjoy writing? I have a friend who used to write supermarket mystery novels under a pen name. (He still won't tell me what that name was - i think he's embarrassed by it.) But anyway I could see something like that possibly. Or Tom Clancy type stuff - espionage and things blowing up ;-) Depends on the whole chart of course.

22. there was a gal who was in college with me - who wrote harlequin
romance under pen name - she was studying writing - the professors would make fun of her writing career - I always thought - well she is at least published - she wanted to do more literary writing - which can be pretty boring - stories are oh so much more fun

23. Interesting you should mention writing.
A reading (not astrological) I had a while ago said that writing was very important to me and I should write even if it's in a journal everyday.

I did have an idea for a book. There are things that only a parent would say, ie "take the plate off of your head". Yes, I did say that to my son when he was about 2. When he was finished eating he would always put his plate on his head. Not sure why, but he always did.

Maybe I should start on that. :-)

not sure what that is all about either

how about them going around in circles - you feel like you need to reach out and stop them or they will fall over - and they go faster and faster sometimes

Do you have Sagittarius or Scorpio rising?

If Sagittarius then Saturn probably rules your 2nd house because Capricorn would be on the 2nd house cusp. You would then look to Saturn - what house and sign it's in & how it's aspected to analyze the financial aspects of your life.

Try this site: http://www.astro.com/

create an account and then check out there AstroClick Portrait. You can click on the planets and the aspects and get info about what each means.

On the other hand if you are just interested in getting career guidance nothing beats a professional reading. My personal experience was the Vedic reading I got was much more accurate and insightful than the 3 Western reading I have got over the years combined. But that may have been the talent of the astrologer as opposed to the system. It got me interested in Vedic Astrology though, which is mostly the system I use exclusively these days.
