Broke is the new cool....
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 02:05 PM by timeforarevolution
I haven't even read this in its entirety, but given the conversations going on right now, I thought it might be rather synchronous. :)

"For several years, I've been a fairly invisible member of the one-paycheck-away-from-disaster class. As a writer with a down and dirty day job, I've lived dangerously, with no health insurance, no benefits, and precarious hours. I've gone without many American trappings, like protein, root canals, and Netflix. I've flipped my sofa cushions looking for spare change to put a gallon of gas in my car, and gotten downright giddy over a five-dollar bill found in the dryer. Until now, I've harbored something close to shame over my one-ply lifestyle, but no more. I have found a higher calling."

1. I feel SO COOL!!
I am very glad to be back in style.

:)

I am fortunate. I doubt if I or my direct descendants (next generation) will starve, sans an apocalyptic event.

Also, I just had a root canal. I have many root canal stories, but I will spare everyone here from these.

2. I lived that way for many years.
I remember selling my plasma one year so I could get my daughter a birthday present. After passing out on the floor, I never went back again. The Universe was good to me. I found $30 on a downtown sidewalk one Sunday with no one in sight, so I could not find the owner. My daughter had an incredible birthday that year.

3. Finding money is an awesome experience
I've done it a few times........once I bought my daughter a tennis racquet with found money. Another time I bought a friend lunch. Once I could sort of ID the person that lost it-- through a SS# in the envelope, and the employer. I trusted the bank personnel with that one.

Thirty bucks on a sidewalk can turn around a whole life, and more. And, when you think about it, that is ridiculous (but true).

4. You are so right!
I found $50 a couple months ago. Sadly, I thought it was a $5, so I did not knock on doors around the area to find out who might have lost it (people think you're nuts if you make a fuss over $5, but that is still a bit of money to me). Anytime I've found money, I've turned it in, if possible. Well, a couple weeks later, I went into my purse and was shocked to find out what I thought was $5 was $50. That is someone's grocery money and I felt really bad. Anyway, I went around but could not find an owner.

5. I love those dreams..
where you find money. Sometimes there are coins in the flower beds or what not. Those are always fun.

You remind me of my parent's visit to Vegas. My dad was very conservative and my mother spends every penny. He kept telling her to put everything that came out of the machines into her pocket and not put it back in the machines. She put it back in as fast as it dropped. He couldn't even stand to gamble. But, he found $10 on the floor and gave it to me for gas. He found more than anyone won! You can also find money in the slot machine buckets in casinos, especially in the wee hours. I found $3 in about 5 minutes one night. Security will throw you out if they catch you doing that though.
