As a fellow sufferer of migraine..and sinus and stress and musculature headaches, I sympathize. My first line of defense is Excedrin migraine tabs...2 or 3 depending on severity. Drink water first, then take the tabs then drink more water. (I read that this helps reduce acidity. Ice packs at the base of the skull will reduce the inflammation in the blood vessels and reduce the pain.
My physical therapist showed me how to release some of the tension to reduce and eliminate the pain. Lie on your back on a firm surface where you can stretch out. Place a rolled up small to medium towel mid back. I am thinking cervical 17 or something. Basically where the curve changes in your back. Don't let your hips rise. Bring your shoulder blades so they are firmly parallel to the floor, bring your ribcage down and tuck your chin in. Feel the stretch in your neck. Work you fingers around the base of the skull to release the muscle hooks that are shortening your neck. If your headache is too intense for that...lie on your right side, bring your left knee up and stretch your right leg behind. Place your right arm perpendicular to your body. Use a pillow to cushion your head, but don't put at an angle. Take your left arm and drop it behind your body. Gently continue to stretch in all the directions pulling your body into a straight line. Don't force anything but keep stretching for several minutes. If you curl into that ball that you want, you will intensify the pain. You have to move in the opposite direction. If ANYTHING I SUGGEST MAKES IT HURT MORE STOP IMMEDIATELY and bring your body back to a resting position. This is not meant to take the place of doctor's opinion or advice and is in no way medical advice. I'm just passing along some great help I received.
