If you have 20 minutes to spare, this is fascinating.
Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

I found her to be captivating to listen to and loved how she tied consciousness to the brain.

2. very cool
Thank you for posting. I liked a lot of parts of this--her bringing an actual human brain on stage was an interesting touch. Also, loved the description of how she used the telephone--fascinating. Of course the real message was what happens when you leave the chatter behind. I guess because of this experience she was able to choose left or right brain----

Kudos to her mom!! Gotta love mothers.

Anyway, there are a lot of other talks there as well. Looks great.

5. This was amazing! How lucky those of you are who are right-brain dominant.

6. I wonder if this disconnect is what the yogi tries to accomplish in meditation
I thought of that when she explained the disconnect of brain chatter, something I could never develop the patience for. It's been described as "internal dialogue" from my friends who DID manage to meditate.

Regardless, the message is there and it's SUCH a good one.
