Some thoughts and articles on Pluto In Capricorn
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 03:05 AM by Dover
Pluto enters Capricorn in February of 2008.

Here are some articles to peruse. My own thoughts about the deeper significance of the shifts we have been experiencing and will continue to develop going forward -
nothing new for most of us, really, so I'm just putting this together for myself and sharing it.

I believe those on the spiritual path who made great strides in the last several years, as symbolized by Pluto's transit through Sagittarius (existing and ancient forms of belief, philosophy, law) - the dredging up, discarding and probing of the very roots of our relationship with the divine, and personal transformation - are now in Capricorn being asked to apply that experience and wisdom and divine holistic integration to the newly forming world, a new society...out of the ashes of the old...and a new and deeper understanding of Saturnian properties (Capricorn's ruler - associated with the material world, time and the building blocks of society, to name a few). Time itself, as we've understood it, will be transformed as a result of shifts in consciousness which will naturally give life to a nondualistic reality...and therefore 'no time'. I recall posting something a long time ago here about Saturn and Time.

If ever there were a Biblical description of Plutonian experience in our lives as regards spiritual death/rebirth, it might be the 23rd Psalm. I know that I, at least, am understanding this passage now much differently than I did several years ago.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

Chaos Theory and Astrology of the Early 21st Century*
by Karen Steen, Astrologer

A Thumbnail Sketch of Chaos Theory

Chaos Theory (1, 2) is considered the science of wholeness. It describes laws that govern whole systems, from economics and weather to thought patterns and social change. Chaos Theory observes that when systems reach their inevitable limits of equilibrium, forces termed Strange Attractors generate turbulence throughout the system. This turbulence intensifies over time and leads to a bifurcation, or split, in the structure of the system. The characteristics of a bifurcation then provide the basis for new systemic order and dynamic equilibrium.

Chaos Theory is a useful model with which to understand the dynamics underlying current global developments. Our modern civilization appears to have reached its limits of equilibrium within nature and between cultures. Global climate change and limited natural resources - especially fossil fuels and the phenomenon of peak oil production(3) - are acting as Strange Attractors, creating increasing turbulence in ecological and sociopolitical systems worldwide. Astrological indicators now and toward 2020 are for intensified turbulence and possibly bifurcation in our environmental, socioeconomic, and political systems.

Astrological Overview 1980 - 2020

Now and toward the year 2020, we are in transition within several major astrological cycles and subcycles. The meeting of Jupiter and Saturn in 1980 and 2000 heralded a transition within their 800 year cycle together of global sociopolitical, cultural, and economic developments (4). Their current subcycle transition is from an emphasis on material development since 1842, to an emphasis on global social development - that of ideas, information, communication, and relationships - for the coming 200 years. This emerging development theme will be substantially defined by 2020 (Jupiter/Saturn Mutation Conjunction in Air), and it will continue into the 23rd Century..cont'd

Maya del Mar:

By 2012, Pluto has recently entered Capricorn, the sign of the U.S. Pluto. It last traveled at this degree in 1765-67. This was when England’s King George was imposing new taxes on colonial commerce. It was the impetus for the gathering of men from all the colonies who began to talk about self-government, and independence from England. U.S. democracy was born then. Perhaps in 2012, we can begin to rebirth democracy.

And, last but not least, Uranus, who wakes us up, has just entered Aries to begin a new cycle in its 84-year trip around the zodiac. Uranus was last in early Aries during 1927-29, as the wild Twenties were winding down, and the big depression was setting in. Wake-up time indeed.

In 2012, Uranus in Aries is moving into a square with Pluto in Capricorn, and we will be awakened from our lethargy during the following years. Pluto and Uranus were joined in Virgo during the 60’s and brought revolution to the world. This will be the next act of that revolution, as they have their first square. The cycle is longer and the action takes longer, but the principle is the same as the first quarter moon. That’s when we break through the weight of the past and let it go, as we actively move into the promise of the new cycle.

I think in 2012 we’re preparing for the momentous Saturn-Jupiter conjunction at 1 Aquarius at the Winter Solstice in 2020 (view chart). This represents a big move into the Aquarian Age.

As time progresses, I will talk more about these charts. However, it’s encouraging now to take a peek into the future, and know that social conditions can, and will, change.

Social change always comes from the bottom up, as people struggle for their autonomy. Part of that process is the exposure of tyranny—whether inner or outer—so that it can be released. Truth needs to come before reconciliation. A breakthrough of denial needs to come before we can face and heal addiction. If tyranny is hidden, it simply repeats itself over and over. Perhaps it is just waiting to be acknowledged and faced, so that we can move on to the next step of evolution.

The planets do indeed show that 2012 can be a door opening to a giant leap in consciousness, in regard to social healing, and in earth healing as well. They are all intimately tied together, and all moved by Spirit’s light..cont'd

Pluto and Politics

I’m sure glad that the International Astronomical Union has decided to retain Pluto’s status as a planet, because I don’t think it’s influence is going to lessen any time soon. Pluto, currently retrograde in Sagittarius, will go direct on September 4th and will cross the Galactic Center, just about 27 degrees Sag, on December 30th. In early 2008 it will enter Capricorn, retrograde back into Sagittarius for a short time, and then re-enter Capricorn where it will remain for 16 years.
The December 2005/ January 2006 issue of Mountain Astrologer featured an article entitled Pluto into Capricorn Part One: Redefining Freedom - New Politics for a New Century by Edward Gillam. In it he points out that it was during the transit of Pluto through the last degrees of Sagittarius in the 1760s that the relationship between the British and the American colonists began to fall apart. Gillam states:

…violent protests began in 1765; Pluto had, by then, firmly established itself in the early degrees of Capricorn. By the time that the revolutionary movement had gathered unstoppable momentum, Pluto had moved into the final decan (segment of 10 degrees) of the sign. …This resulted in the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, with Pluto at 27°33′ Capricorn.

Essentially, the United States is about to have a Pluto return.
Capricorn is the sign associated with the rules of society and political institutions. Where Pluto casts its shadow one often finds transformation through confronting and dealing with issues of power. Do I agree with Mr. Gillam that we as a country may be starting a new cycle of revolution against the established power structures? I do.
Long before I considered the astrological influences, I was seeing a future for America that included war, devastation (as in that wrought by Hurricane Katrina) and lack of resources..cont'd

A Future with Pluto

Nobody has ever suggested that it was the job of Pluto to make people feel comfortable. That is not the general idea. When it was discovered as a pinpoint of light on a photographic plate on February 18th 1930 , the world was in upheaval – financially because of the Wall Street crash, and politically because of the rise of fascism in Europe . Scientifically, early work on splitting the atom led to the development of the atomic bomb, ultimately threatening the survival of humanity. Psychologically, demons that had been conveniently projected onto the devil and all his non-Christian works were unearthed within our own psychology as a part of our nature. And they were on the loose.

The principle of Pluto is that something infinitely small can have an effect out of all proportion to its size. In this sense Pluto is connected with miniaturisation. Computers that once filled whole buildings in the 1960’s are handheld today. As material objects get halved in size, then halved again, their price also proportionately decreases, making treasures fit for kings available to everyman. As we peer deep into matter, or into deep space, we come to the roots of being, and the roots of time. The Big Bang was the creation of everything from nothing. The energy of Pluto is always locked, and appears blocked, and a special key is needed to release its transformative effect – an effect that increases exponentially once released.

Pluto is connected with plastic, just as Neptune is connected with oil, from which most plastic comes. Slowly but surely plastic is replacing natural products and creating an indestructible, non-biodegradable world. The plastic, cling-film interface between our senses and reality alienates and disconnects us from the organic world. This plastic world is clean, but dead, and it makes us uncomfortable. It will not always be like this – a time will come when plastic will be precious. It will save the world’s forests by replacing trees, and save the world’s animals by insulating and nourishing our bodies.

When people cease to work as slaves, it will be the robots of Pluto that will have taken over. Wherever today a man ceaselessly repeats an inhuman task, a robot will uncomplainingly toil, leaving humans in the promised land of Aquarius to indulge the sensual feast. This plastic playground is almost here; remove the plastic, the automation and the robots, and civilisation would cease to exist as we know it.

But we are full of anxiety, and the very factor that will ultimately deliver us from anxiety is, in this period of history, its cause. As Pluto moves through the signs, from Cancer at its discovery in 1930 to Sagittarius as the new millennium begins, it removes the comfort zone that humanity took for granted in connection with each sign, and when Pluto leaves that sign, something has been changed forever. ..cont'd

PART I

Pluto in Capricorn: the Birth and death of governments and institutions

From 2008 to 2025 Pluto will enter the Cardinal sign of Capricorn. Cardinal signs are about action, so any planet the
enters these signs will be even more able to express themselves and impose their energies on the sign's arena of life.
Capricorn's arena of life is government and institutions. Capricorn dictates the stage, while any planet that moves into
that sign plays its role. While Venus is Marilyn Monroe, Pluto would be something more like Christopher Walkin!

In all seriousness, Pluto in Capricorn is some "heavy" energy. For most of us, our first reaction to Pluto is a strong
sense of dread and anxiety. This is because Pluto transforms us. Pluto is so hard to deal with because it destroys the
ego, replacing it with a new understanding of ourselves and others. In mundane astrology, this is about whole nations
and groups of people. The last time Pluto entered Capricorn, the United States seceded from Britain, Napoleon was
born, and the World saw the decline of the Ottoman Empire. So, it's easy to see why so many astrologers are
concerned about Pluto in Capricorn. Here, Pluto is transforming structures and nations. Watch as many nations are
destroyed and many nations are born. Even more, watch for revolutions against existing governments. With the
transformative nature of Pluto, watch governments around the World first react with authoritarian legal codes and laws
to squash the population’s inner desire for drastic change. Since Pluto is a planetary "heavy hitter", this is not just the
typical voter apathy. The desire of the World’s masses will be a total redirection of the governmental and legal
structures to support the rights and interests of the group, not just the few. Tomas Jefferson and Washington operated
under the influence of this Pluto in Capricorn.

Pluto in the US Chart

For the US' Sagittarius ascendent chart, this will be the US' "Pluto return", since the US was born with Pluto in
Capricorn. Capricorn on the cusp of the second house in the US chart shows that Pluto in Capricorn will transform the
nature that America deals with equity in its approach towards the economic well-being of its population. This is
especially true with a Pluto trine Uranus in the US chart.

Since Pluto is now transforming the US' Sagittarius rising sign in the first house (the house of the self), the US is
hurting in its reputation in foreign matters. The US, especially in foreign matters, is seen as arrogant and power hungry
(Pluto opposition Jupiter). Pluto is destroying the US' sense of self. leaving it to reevaluate its mission and ideal of
itself. The nature of Pluto, however, is not pleasant. The planet of the underworld and death must destroy something
before it creates anew - something that is very painful. This is the reason for the extreme dichotomy between the
extreme left and right, leaving the American citizenry to pick between those who want to hold on to tradition and those
who see a new era of a more accepting and free America. Conservatives are keeping the “old guard” on life-support,
holding back the natural expansion of civil liberties and new mores.

In 2008, when Pluto enters Capricorn, Pluto will create a nice trine with the US' natal Uranus. This is about freedom,
concern for liberation, equity, and civil liberties. Watch Americans begin to reevaluate community, and especially the
role of the government in their lives. As Pluto moves away from Sagittarius, many in the whole World will start to move
away from traditional religion, and rebel against religion's more oppressive tendency. Pluto in Sagittarius has left
religion totally battered with the growth of religious violence.

In Capricorn, the sign of governmental structure, watch for the US government to try to use underhanded mechanisms
for social control. However, any governmental attempts to oppress the population's urge to liberate themselves from
social and governmental conventions will leave the Government battered and hurt in its esteem. This is because of the
Pluto/Sun opposition.

PART II

The Coming Constitutional Crisis

Astrology can show trends, however, only the most sophisticated and most intuitive of astrologers can predict exactly
what will happen - including the who’s, when’s, and where’s. That would be more like a psychic of the strain of Jean
Dixon and her Kennedy predictions. Someday, I would like to get to that level of proficiency. For now, I can talk of
trends that will unfold and effect the life of our nation.

As I have mentioned in previous articles, the Bush administration will not finish it’s term in office. There are too many
aspects with the malefic planets - Mars and Saturn. These two planets are weighing heavy on Bush’s natal chart.
Likewise, The US’ Sagittarius chart is showing signs of stress and a breakup of the old order - in this case, the end
of Republican dominance in the White House. Coming into February, Bush will find himself weary, isolated,
irritated, and more than willing to lash out at his detractors. This will continue as I see Bush having to deal with legal
and political issues. These issues, if unresolved, will culminate into a full blown constitutional crisis in late 2006 or
early 2007. This could be impeachment or some kind of legal battle between the Bush and his inner circle against the
People.

To deal with this, Bush will become more and more religious in his tone and outlook. This is because of his
progressed Moon in Sagittarius making a trine to his loaded first house in his natal chart. This trend of extreme
religiosity is also indicated in transits to his natal chart with transiting Neptune opposite Pluto, Venus, and Mercury all
in the first house. The issue here is a false sense of martyrdom. Neptune, the “Christ” planet is making a hard aspect
to the often malefic Pluto.

The Power of the People

Most importantly, this will be caused by the People taking a lead in a revolt against the “sins” of the Bush
Administration and the Republican party. Three or four years ago, such a statement would have been considered
ridiculous or even unpatriotic. Well, how times do change, and likewise the mood of the people. Coming into the
summer of 2006, the people more and more will find dissatisfaction with the current administration. Most likely, the
Democrats will win one or both houses in the 2006 election.

Coming into mid 2006, the US’ progressed Moon will enter the sign of Leo in the eighth house. In traditional
astrology, the Moon is the symbol of the People. Leo is a generous sign, however, it is a sign that yearns for the
constant attention and the approval of others. But always, Leo is the king of the jungle and it loves to take charge. In
this case, US’ progessed Moon is the People taking more and more of a role in their own political affairs. Watch for
states, city governments, and municipalities taking on the Bush administration and forming their own policies regarding
the environment, civil rights, and education. This will be necessary as we see the breakdown in th role of the federal
government.

A Crisis is Coming

The culminating effect of the coming impeachment, or “dethroning..cont'd

Lynn Hayes:

We've had a rough time astrologically over the past year, which may account for the explosion in new astrology blogs. We get a brief respite in 2007 (except for the opposition of Saturn to Neptune), and then the countdown starts to 2012.

Astrologically, the period around 2012 brings a number of major aspects that are big and challenging, but that also have the potential to bring tremendous change and transformation. The square of Uranus to Pluto, heralding a cultural change that will echo the changes of the Uranus Pluto conjunction in the 1960s, begins in 2011. Uranus will be in Aries, the god of war, with Pluto in Capricorn, the sign of structure and society. Here's what's coming up before then:

* Pluto enters Capricorn 2008 where it is likely to begin the breakdown (Pluto) of our social and governmental structures (Capricorn) so that ultimately they can be rebuilt.

* Saturn will oppose Uranus 2008-2010, bringing about a clash of authority (Saturn) with rebellion and cultural change (Uranus) (beginning right at the US presidential election).

* Saturn will square Pluto 2009-2010 with the addition of Jupiter and Uranus during a portion of the cycle. When the two dark lords face off it usually isn't very pretty.

Difficult times bring transformation and that can be a magnificent experience if we are able to keep our perspective on what is occurring on a spiritual level. Robert Wilkinson has some inspiring words to help keep us focused as we approach these times:

By ancient sources we are told humanity is on an arc of return, and past the depths of its ignorance, though there are a few throwbacks still flailing against history. I believe these times are the last effort for those clutching at a way of life that is already fading, as the vast majority of us do NOT think torture, starvation, violence, greed, and smashmouth politics and economics are part of a desireable or sustainable reality.

::snip::

We are now becoming aware of global issues that transcend nations, and affect everyone on Earth. This is the wave of history, and we have some ability to determine whether the transition into the era dawning after 2020 will be unnecessarily difficult. It will be rough enough, but eventually we will break free of the mindset that is gripping the planet at present. This too will pass.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pluto ensures Soul Integrity prevails: Pluto will destruct personality alliances and personality driven motivations to ensure soul's mission is attained, even at the cost of the personality life. This implies a need for letting go. The nature of the alliances destructed is a function of the location of Pluto in the astrological chart. Pluto is independent, individual, autonomous, the revolutionist, and the extremist. Pluto is of isolation and aloneness. Pluto fears not battle, war, or death. Pluto is also where, generationally, unacceptability occurs, where the antiquated must be destroyed--in the genetic / cellular patterns carried in ourselves and so in those expressed in the world.

Image of Pluto by Agostino Carracci, 1592 / Galleria Estense, Modena, Italy

Pluto works at a cellular and primordial level, with pre-birth and past lifetime issues. Pluto can invoke cellular level stored fear regarding death, transmutation, and survival issues; as well as all early childhood programming. Pluto is an "opener" and a "deprogrammer" that provides doorways for new growth and unfoldment. Pluto, lord of the underworld, brings to conscious awareness that which is hidden in the subconscious by removing that which is hiding it. Pluto-type experiences (those seemingly destructive) when worked with from this perspective can support tremendous spiritual growth.

2. Well hello old friend! (((hug)))
Thank you. I also look forward to your contributions here.

I should say that I'm not exactly 'back', as in full time.

I will be 'disappearing' and gone for long stretches, so I hope no one will misinterpret that as disinterest. Just have much to do in the noncyber world and stay completely unplugged during these times. I can't even remember the last time I turned on a t.v.!

But will no doubt bring new posts back to share when I return.

6. Some articles about Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) and Time
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 05:05 AM by Dover
These are some posts from a couple of years ago, but relevent to this subject.

Meditations on Saturn
by Dane Rudhyar:

"In the Beginning" is the Seed.

Any cycle of existence must begin in something. Life emerges out of one kind of seed or another. In the cycle of yearly vegetation, the seed lies hidden in the ground during the winter; then, as the sun's rays gain strength and spring begins, the great event of germination occurs. As the seed is torn asunder by some inner power of eager response to the sun, the rootlet stretches itself downward into the soil and the little germ reaches up to the crust of the soil, which it breaks in a magnificent gesture of liberation from the darkness of the past.

Rootlet and upreaching germ are, however, but the twofold "externalization" of the power of life that has been imminent and latent in the seed. They represent the two basic aspects of life: the search for raw materials which can be incorporated into the growing plant and the drive of more or less conscious forms of existence for self-expression in the light and self-multiplication in a progeny. The former produces the complex system of roots which provide water and chemicals to the plant; the latter manifests as stem, branches, leaves, flowers, and the fruit within which a new crop of seeds will mature...>

Saturn, God in Greek Mythology

In Greek mythology, the god Saturn was said to be the ruler of the "Golden Age," the age of purity and innocence. Why was Saturn given this position, which seems ill-fit for the mostly dreary reputation which astrologers usually give to the planet which is supposed to be the embodiment of this god? The planet Saturn is, in its most fundamental aspect, the seed; and the power of the seed is supreme during the very first phase of existence, when the downward and upward drives of rootlet and germ are still close to the seed — indeed within the "aura" (or field of energy) of the seed.

Greek mythology speaks of four ages: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Iron Ages. It simply repeats the great and much older Indian tradition which described four yugas (or great cycles): Satya Yuga was the first age, the Golden Age — and we will note at once the relation between "Sat-ya" and "Sat-urn." The word Sat in Sanskrit signifies "essential being." It is the pure, spiritual foundation of existence. It is, thus, the seed state before germination - i.e., before the purity of essential being is affected by the results of complex and often adulterating relationships with the world.

"Satya" is the powerful assertion (Ya) of essential being. In the now quite fashionable language of Zen Buddhism, the word refers to a man's "fundamental nature" — or, it is said, to "the face one had before one was born." This fundamental nature — this pre-existing form of selfhood (i.e., "face") — which becomes clouded over by a constantly increasing agglomeration of non-essential characteristics and superfluous social acquisitions, this is the seed-being deep in every human personality. To live "spiritually" is to live in terms of, and with reference to, this seed-being instead of according to the dictates or ever-changing moods (perhaps vagaries, even perversions) of our surface being. It is, therefore, to live in terms of what the planet Saturn essentially represents — that is, in terms of the "purity" of our true self. In Sanskrit, the word Satya has also the meaning of truth — but truth not as an intellectual fact — i.e., a statement is true or untrue — but instead as a reference to the essential being of every living entity, especially of every human person.

Saturn is, therefore — if I can be permitted this bi-lingual play on words — the "urn of essential being." It is the seed, inasmuch as the seed is the tough-skinned container of the essential characteristics of a particular species of life. It is the foundation of human existence — first, in a "generic" sense (for we all are first of all human beings), then in an "individualized" sense as a particular person with a consciousness which he calls his own....cont'd

Kronos/Chronos/Saturn/Satan

Kronos | Saturn
Kronos, lord of time, was the youngest son of Ouranos (Uranus, heaven) and Gaia, sky and earth. These two emerged from primal chaos coupled in an endless embrace in which there was no room for children. Gaia was forced to confine them within her body as soon as they were born. She resented this and grieved the loss of her children, so she conspired with Kronos to end the embrace.

She gave him a specially-fashioned adamantine sickle with jagged teeth. Deep within the earth, his mother, Kronos located his father's penis and cut it off, then took it and threw it into the sea. Ouranos and Gaia sprang apart, never to be reunited. Thus did the Lord of Time create the separation between spirit and matter.

The severed member floated for a long time, and eventually, from the foam that surrounded it, Aphrodite was born. From the flecks of blood that were flicked from it, the Erinyes were created to avenge wickedness and the spilling of blood within families.

Thus the Titans, Kronos' brothers, were released and they declared that Kronos should be the second ruler of heaven. He released the Cyclopes and other prisoners in Tartarus, but while he vowed to rule differently, it was not long before the corruption of power overcame him, and he became the same tyrant his father was. Gaia warned him that, like his father, he would be overthrown by one of his children.

When Kronos married his sister Rhea, he swallowed all the children of the union lest one of them overthrow him. Rhea, like Gaia, was unhappy with this, so when Zeus was to be born she fled to Crete, delivering the child in secret, and bringing back to Kronos a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes. Kronos demanded she feed the child, so Rhea expressed milk that became the stars of the Milky Way.

Kronos eventually discovered the deception, but he did not know where the child was, so he hunted through the earth. On his travels he saw the Oceanid Philyra and swore to have her. She resisted by turning herself into a mare to escape but Kronos changed into a stallion and had his way with her. The product of this union was the centaur, Chiron, a god with the form of half man, half horse. Philyra was so distressed by this monster offspring that she changed into a linden tree.

Meanwhile, Zeus, now grown, persuaded the Oceanid Metis, his first wife, to administer a drug to Kronos to force him to vomit up the remaining children. Zeus promised that those who had suffered under Kronos would be raised up and honoured if they would fight with him to overthrow Kronos and the Titans. When this was done he bound them in chains and cast them into the darkness of Tartarus. Zeus later released Kronos and granted him dominion over the Islands of the Blest, a heavenly abode of the virtuous after death.

Despite the tyrannical nature of Kronos' rulership, it was known among men as the Golden Age, the first age of man, when there was no punishment, no war and no work, a time of milk and honey and eternal spring. In this age men did not steal or quarrel, and had the gift of speech with animals. Sexuality was unknown and children were born from the earth, so there was no social structure and no demands. This may well have changed by means of the union of Kronos' son Eros with the mortal Psyche.

This is by astrologer Robert Hand:

Saturn mythological
Saturn was the Roman god of agriculture, first appearing as Etruskian god of sowing, education and law. Sat is an Etruskian word for sowing but also for satiate. Due to the Greek influence Saturn’s attributes have been assimilated with the early Greek deity of Kronos. In Greek mythology Kronos was the youngest son of Gaia (Earth) and Uranos (Heaven). They begat six female and six male Titans, all of them thrown into the Abyss (Tartaros) by Uranos. But Gaia contrived a plan and she could win Kronos over to help her.
Kronos castrated his father with a sickle that Gaia gave him, and Uranos's blood that was dropping to the earth produced the Erinyes, Giants and Nymphs. From his sperm which fell into the sea Aphrodite was born - in other version was Aphrodite a daughter of Zeus and the Titan daughter Dione.
Kronos took the throne and his Titan sister Rhea in marriage. Together they reigned the so called ”Golden Age”, a period of incessant joy, where people lived carefree without any laws, wars and discord.

Kronos, predicted to be overthrown by one of his children, devoured five of his offspring right after their birth. But Rhea was able to preserve her sixth child Zeus from the fate of his other brothers and sisters by outwitting Kronos and giving him a stone to swallow instead of the new-born child. And so could the prophecy come true, as so often in Greek mythology, at the attempt to avoid it. Zeus grew up hidden, returned and conquered the Olymp, overthrew his father and compelled him to vomit the five children he had swallowed. Zeus brought Kronos to Ogygia from where he is watching the deeds of his son in his dreams, waiting for the day to recreate and reign again the Golden Age.
The Roman more and more took to the legend of the Golden Age, as well as to the ritual feasts in honour of the deity. For example the festive days of the Saturnalia were soon identified with Kronos and were completely hellenized.
In later history Saturn also appeared as god of time and death.

Saturn astrological
It takes Saturn 2,5 years to move through a sign of the zodiac and 29.5 years to run once around the zodiac. Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius. Its position in the horoscope indicates mental conflicts and uncertainties. Saturn makes rules, shows one’s own limitations, represents structure, learning, knowledge and patience, and enables oneself to mature and to take responsibility.

In the following an astrological description of Saturn by Robert Hand from the book ”Horoscope Symbols”:

Saturn is central to an understanding of the individual and his awareness, though its importance is of a different kind from that of the Sun, Moon, and other personal points. Since Saturn is so slow-moving, its position in the zodiac does not distinguish one individual very well from another. Yet Saturn is an energy that concerns collectives, and the relationship of an individual to the collective aspects of life is one of the most important things we can know about a person.
One matter must be dealt with immediately. Saturn is undergoing a great rehabilitation nowadays, and most modern writers agree that it is not as malefic as was once thought. Just as Jupiter, once called the ”greater benefic,” can indicate difficult energies at times, it is also now recognized that Saturn can play a positive role. Yet its power for destruction is still great, not because it is intrinsically destructive, but because in many cases we do not know how to handle Saturn energy. Those who have studied planetary energies have learned to handle what is traditionally describes as ”Saturn's malefic effects,” but few have learned that Saturn's greatest threats to happiness come at precisely those times when it seems to be operating positively. In order to understand this, we must first understand Saturn's basic meanings.
In the course of this text we shall see that Saturn can be seen as the opposite pole of several planetary energies. This stems from the all-pervasive nature of Saturn. Before we look at Saturn's polar relation to Jupiter, let us examine the concept of polarity.
The experience of the universe that we share with each other is founded directly upon the principle of polarity: up-down, left-right, male-female, backward-forward, I-thou, I-it, good-evil, and so forth. In every pair of polar opposites, each member of the pair derives its meaning from the opposite member: each would be meaningless without the other. We all have noted that anything, no matter how pleasurable it might be at first, in excess becomes cloying and even unpleasant. We enjoy cooling off when it is too hot, warming up when it is too cold. And it is not just a matter of finding a balance. Most people need to go back and forth at least to some degree in order really to appreciate one or the other side of any polarity. This is true even of good and evil. At times, most of us enjoy doing what might be considered evil, but few appreciate unalloyed evil. Similarly, most people find those who are too good rather trying. I believe, along with the various schools of Eastern philosophy, that polarity is intrinsic to the nature of the universe, and that it is proper for humanity to follow the shifting paths between polar opposites. This is the path of the Tao.
Reality itself gains its varied nature from the interweaving of polar opposites. Without them, there would be no reality that we could relate to, in fact, no existence. Even existence is polarized by nonexistence.

TIME

Time/Space - The One Eternal Now (from an old freemason's book)

This is from a very old book on freemasonry (so there shouldn't be any copyright restrictions). While our discoveries in science have
caught up with this centuries old esoteric knowledge, this early explanation of the Time/Space riddle is beautiful and very helpful. It's very much in keeping with what Eckhart Tolle (in his book, The Power of Now) has reintroduced and made accessible. Experience of the Now, is available to the seeker through disciplines such as meditation, but is not acessible or understood through the intellect (experientially, that is).

Enjoy.

A SYMBOL OF OMNISCIENCE UNCONDITIONED BY SPACE AND TIME

In Masonry the All-Seeing Eye, ever beholds us. Indeed, the expression implies even more than this. Not merely does the Deity behold us – everyone – wherever we are, and however employed – so that all existing facts throughout the material universe, at this present moment, are equally apparent to Him – but it necessarily follows that to an Omnipresent Being, such finite terms as Past, Present and Future can have no meaning; for to Him all Time is one eternal Now.

Space and Time are in fact the two mysterious Pillars which flank the Porch of the material universe – the great Temple of the Deity whom we serve. The celestial and terrestrial worlds rest upon these twin pillars, yet the pillars themselves seem to us illimitable. So far as human reason and thought can fathom them, Space is infinite and Time is infinite; only the All-Seeing Eye of God can comprehend the two in their entirety.

Let us examine these two Pillars more closely. In other words, let us try for a few moments to realise the stupendous scale on which the material universe has been constructed. Perhaps the simplest way to do this will be to adopt an illustration by taking an imaginary journey through Space. We will call to our aid Astronomy. By Astronomy we observe the motions, measure the distances, and comprehend the magnitudes of the celestial bodies.

For our hypothetical voyage let us harness the wings of Light to our chariot. I will not pause now to discuss what Light really is; but you all know that it travels – travels with a velocity almost incredible – about 186,000 miles in a second; or in other words, a velocity equivalent to shooting a particle seven and a half times round the earth whilst your watch marks one second.

Launching ourselves out into the ethereal concave at this almost inconceivable speed, over an abyss of 50,000,000 miles, directing our course to our nearest celestial neighbor, the plant Mars, we arrive in about four and a half minutes at that wonderful world; in many respects so similar and yet in others so different from our own.

We must not stay, howeer, to inspect its marvels. Away again into space we continue our journey for nearly four hours, crossing the orbits of three far mightier spheres – Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus – each separated by a more stupendous distance from the other, until we reach our planetary outpost, Neptune. Our glorious luminary the Sun appears from there but as a glimmering star in the sky. Practically no heat, no daylight ever penetrates the distance from it. Only the mysterious force called gravitation governs and guides it from its solar center 2,740 million miles away. To convey some idea of this enormous distance, may I say that if the path of light and force from the Sun to Neptune be represented by a line 76 yards long, every single inch in that line would represent a million miles.

Thus far have we proceeded; yet this vast planetary system which we have been considering covers but a fraction of the space in the Universe. Standing now on the planet Neptune, let us look forth into the abyss beyond it. The starry firmament surrounds us here just as at home, all the stars still far, far away – at distances of appalling immensity, inexpressible by miles. The velociy of Light at which we have been travelling must be our unti of measurement.

We will select Sirius, the Dog Star, the most brillian (though not the nearest) of all the stellar orbs. Sirius is an enormous binary sun, similar to, but far larger than, our Sun. It is the center of a Sirian planetary system, and dispenses light and heat under the same conditions as in our solar phenomena. Its mass is about twenty times that of our own grand luminary, and its distance about 100 billions of miles; so that the rays of light from Sirius require about 15 years to travel to Earth.

Still, even at this almost incomprehensible distance, there are immeasurable depths of space before us. Far away beyond Sirius we see a misty zone of light, forming an immense girdle around the firmament. From time immemorial it has beeen called the Galaxy or “Milky Way”. As we approach it, this luminous mist resolves itself into a countless multitude of stars, bounded by more nebulous haze. Penetrating still further, this haze is again resolved into myriads of yet more distance stars, and still unexplored haze comes into view from the dark depths of space beyond. We should have to travel with the velocity of Light for ten thousand years ere we could reach the extremity of this stupendous star-cluster, which comprises millions of mighty spheres of incandescent matter, our own Sun being but a unit – a comparatively insignificant unit – amid the host. Remember, too, that every one of these millions of luminaries (together with its planets or satellites) is rolling ever through the vast expanse of Space with terrific rapidity, in its own particular path among its fellows.

Yet again, we must turn our thoughts away beyond this countless multitude of suns. The Universe extends far beyond them. Still on the wings of the Light, you must project your minds across voids which (even with our postulated tremendous velocity) would require thousands of years to traverse, until at length our glorious Galaxy shall have shrunk in retrogressive remoteness to the appearance of a small vesica-shaped cloud.

Meanwhile before us another self-luminous cloud grows grander and grander, till the darkness is dispelled by its glittering haze. On and on, till the haze resolves itself into more myreads of suns – glorious and immense as that whence we came; a cluster whose extent would unquestionably require at least another ten thousand years to transpierce with all the speed of Light.

In other words – night after night, by means of our largest and finest telescopes, waves of Light enter and impinge on a human eye after having been travelling through space for more than sixty-thousand years. Yet, beyond this awful circuit, boundless Space spreads away as unfathomable as ever.

We have passed from planet to planet, from sun to sun, from star-cluster to star-cluster; yet only to discover that the limits of Space – tri-dimensional Space – extend beyond our grasp in every direction.

“The human spirit can only cry out that it finds no limit. Notwithstanding all its strivings the finite mind cannot really get any nearer to where the might sea of Time breaks in noiseless waves on the shore of Eternity” (Klein).

We have reached the point where human thought must halt, and imagination grow giddy in conceiving God's ominiscience.

Like two parallel lines, these mighty pillars of Space and Time raise their heads about the Temple of the Universe, converging at Infinity; where the All-Seeing Eye of the Deity looks along them from beginning to end, in simultaneous inspection.

Now standing at the top of the Winding Staircase of Arts and Sciences, we pause – and from this vantage point concentrate and direct our attention upon that sublime symbol which is the subject of our study. Let us see whether our brief astronomical survey will enable us to comprehend more clearly how – to the All-Seeing Eye – there can be no such distinctions as here and There…Past and Future. To the Almighty and Eternal God there can be – there must be, only an ever-constant Here and Now.

I ask you to remember the velocity at which light travels, and look at the light shining in the east of the Lodge. You do not see its form, size and color as they really ARE at this very instant; but as they WERE when the waves of luminositywhich now enter your eyes left the source a certain fraction of time ago. In the same way we see the Sun only as it existed either minutes previously, and we see the planet Neptune only as it existed four hours previously. To go further, to what are termed the “fixed stars”, we see Sirius as it was fifteen years ago. During the long interval Sirius may have disappeared or exploded into atoms; yet we on this planet still see it shining, and we shall continue so to see it until the long line of luminosity emanating from it has run itself out.

In fact, to us, the Vault of Space is bespangled with images of blazing suns not as they are now, but as they WERE centuries ago; whilst stellar photography reveals light which left other firmaments even thousands of years ago.

Let us take the converse of this thought. If we were situated now on the planet Neptune, and we had eyes (or else some suitable optical instrument) to see in minute detail occurrences upon the Earth, the scene here which we should behold would not be that of the present moment but that of four hours ago.

Proceeding still further away, on the star Sirius would be visible the events which were occurring on Earth 15 years ago. On some other yet more distant star, there is just arrving that historic spectacle when the English Grand Lodge was inaugurated more than two centuries ago. At another spot, still more remote, is only now arriving the scene which occurred at Jerusalem nearly 3000 years ago when Solomon King of Israel was marking out the designs for their wonderful Temple; at that particular point in space every incident will be depicted in its true succession, until the stately pile becomes completed and the workment are bidden to cease labor.

By the same logical sequence it is obvious that in worlds still more exceedingly remote, the whole history of the Earth could not yet have begun to be. What would occur if from such a point we could return to Earth in one year, endowed with the wonderful faculty which I have been assuming? The whole of the events from the Creation down to the present moment would pass in view before us as we approached, only thousands of times more rapidly. Make the journey in one month instead of one year, and the speed of consecution will be proportionately accelerated. Make the journey in a day, an hour, a second, or a moment, and all those events in Existence which we denominate “the Past” will be visibly enacted in an infinitesimal unit of time.

In fact we may thus understand that wherever we are, and whatever we do, the survey of the Omnipresent Diety is not only upon us now, but is also simultaneously beholding every event which has occurred since the beginning of all Time. To an Omnipresent Being an eternity can be at will compressed into a moment, and conversely, a moment can be protracted to an eternity; for, to his All-Seeing Eye, Time can have no objective reality.

There is another method which may help us to grasp the idea that to the All-Seeing Eye, the infinitesimally little must be just readily and entirely apparent as the superlatively large. I have show that to the Omnipresent Being, what we call Time (or duration) cannot exist. Any event may be drawn out to a thousand times its length or may be enacted a thousand times more rapidly; but it will, of course, still constitute the same scene or series of scenes. Now, such are the limitations of our human faculties that we cannot distinguish in any quivering object more than twenty vibrations per second as single separate movements. At any quicker rate such vibrations are perceptible to our sight only as a blur, and to our hearing only as a hum.

But many a tiny insect regularly vibrates its wings a thousand times in a second (as we know by the musical note produced), and, so far as we can scertain, that insect is itself cognizant of each separate beat. How absolutely different from ours must its appreciaton of Time be!!! Its entire life extends only over a few hours. There can be not alternation of day and night – none of the ordinary criteria whereby WE measure duration. It would be, as it were, viewing Time through a microscope.

Now, if we travel away from such insect at exactly the velocity of light (as, in imangination we did a short time ago) that which we call “the present instant” would continue always with us; the wing of the insect (although really vibrating at tremendous speed) would appear to us quite stationary; and would for ever remain so if we thus continued our flight concurrently with the rays of light. Therefore, to the All-Seeing Eye of the Deity who formed that tiny insect, and endowed it with life, its entire existence must be instantaneously apparent – every minute circumstance indelibly portrayed in waves of light, which circulate for ever through the illimitable Space which we have been surveying.

A SYMBOL OF OMNISCIENCE REGARDED MONITORALLY

In conclusion, let us see whether these thoughts will not help to solve (at least partly) some of the moral enigmas which confront us when we contemplate the evil and injustice perpetrated on Earth. A crime, committed hundreds or even thousands of years ago, may have remained undiscovered by Man, but somewhere in Space the scene still exists from beginning to end. The victim and the criminals of that fatal catastrophe have been for centuries turned to dust. Both site and surroundings have been swept from the Here. But the entire sequence of events is protrayed There – the ghastly wound still appeals for justice before the All-Seeing Eye, and (adopting an argument of the eminent astronomer Flammarion) if the ghosts of the assassins were condemned to move ceaselessly in space with the point where the etherial vibrations display their crime, and with the velocity of light, they would thereby be compelled to a perpetual contemplation of it. A penalty, surely, as terrible as the crime itself !

So must it be with every lapse from that undeviating line of conduct laid down in Sacred Law. And every such defection must remain – would have to subsist in perpetuity – except that the dazzling brilliance of Judicial Power in the All-Seeing Eye is blended with an Infinite Benignity. It is this which permits that hereafter – somehow, somewhere, these penal offences will be annulled from existence.

Here, our circle of human conduct is bounded by Divine Mercy. But parallel lines converge at Infinity. Hence, though the Seord of unerring and impartial Justice impends the one parallel, we raise our eyes to that Bright Morning Star which illumins the other, and we trust that by humility and contrition the doom will bee be averted.

Yet the deeply solemn thought reamins. Wherever we are, and whatever we do – ALL is perpetually present to the scrutiny of our Just though merciful Judge. To Him our real intentions are plainly apparent, the criterion of our actions; and He will reward or punish as we have obeyed or disregarded His Divine commands. Whatever be our faults, the Eye of Omniscience exercises an unwearied supervision over the actions and affairs of the whole human race; and while we continue to act according to the principles of our Craft, let us not fail to discharge our duty to the Grand Overseer with fervency and zeal.

7. Sorry I really intended to respond to this earlier. . .
Thanks for the good wishes for my slumber last weekend.

Feeling much refreshed and restored now. Finally.

Pluto's ingress in and out of Capricorn treading over the Solar Apex is ominous for sure.

There has been an incredible amount of squacking and astro angst about the pending Uranus Pluto square in Aries/Cap (respectively) which is within orb (though out of sign) as early as late '08 but it will be exact in June 2012.

That aspect will grace and be within orb of a square and opposition to the intergalactic center in early Libra.

Though it's quite foolish to ever reduce an entire sign to a few words, and not a terribly ingeniously great idea, please indulge this a approach for a minute or so.

Uranus rules Aquarius and the key words are about all of us an the keywords are liberty, equality, and fraternity. It's about the "we" amongst a host of other things. It can augur great enlightenment.

Aries is about the self and the embodiment of the essence of one's individuality. This culture rewards selfishness certainly requires some enlightenment as to how that paradigm is not exactly oriented for the greater good.

Pluto is all about transformation (wicked understatement.) Capricorn rules our governance and business practices.

The primary reason I was too tired to respond to this initially was because I had just got in from reading for a slew of kids who were freshmen and sophmores in a very privileged high school. They were mostly born in '91 & '92. That means they have Uranus and Neptune conjunct their North Nodes in Capricorn. Some of the older ones had Saturn there as well. Most were well aware of how utterly disfunctional and broken our government is as well as how inequitable many aspects of corporate business are. These may be the one's who create far more equitable systems over time.

They gave me great hope.

It's that group and those born in '88-'89 Saturn that consistently inspire me.

After September, and for the next 2 & 1/2 years after that, I'll be looking towards the people born with Saturn conjunct Chiron opposed Pluto conjunct Uranus born in '66 and '67 will be going through both their Saturn and Uranus opposition. This will be enormously interesting to see that generation's aspects triggered given the rampant social changes that were occurring when they incarnated. They are in a way, imprinted with those promises and dreams that have become so threatened in recent years.

I keep on feeling overwhelmed by the resurgence of rampant bigotry and homophobia, and that the issue of torture even being considered to be remotely tolerable or acceptable in this day and age.

Bottom line is the structures that are intended to serve us are broken and will over time be remedied. Shaken up over the last decade and a half by transits of Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, and Chiron through Capricorn certainly haven't helped.

Pluto in Capricorn may just address transformation of these issues.

Interesting that the gross inequities within our penal and judicial system are presently emerging through Ms. Hilton and Scooter.

8. Thanks Stella. I agree, those generational groups will be very interesting

to follow and will have very special significance. Sounds like you got quite a dose of their energy during your sessions with them and were in a great positon to take their pulse.

And thanks for that other link. A good overview of historical events during previous Pluto in Capricorn transits. Capricorn is the status quo of social conventions and infrastructure, which Pluto will be impacting. I like what the author said about taking personal responsibility or accepting subservience to the whims of those who would like to maintain and expand their power:

Many of us fear further oppression and the growing of a police state. To the extent that we project our responsibility for crafting the fabric of our experience onto "the Government," the police state will arise to provide the discipline that we unconsciously desire.

As per the Aries/Uranus, Cap/Pluto square in the not too distant future...
would you elaborate on this statement you made a bit more?

Aries is about the self and the embodiment of the essence of one's individuality. This culture rewards selfishness certainly requires some enlightenment as to how that paradigm is not exactly oriented for the greater good.

I think I may be in some disagreement with how you are characterizing Aries energy and the significance of the upcoming square, but really am not clear about the paradigm you are describing.

It will be quite the battle of the titans, though, considering Mars which is the ruler of Aries is also exalted in Capricorn.

9. Okay will try and do so
but am still regrouping from yet another all nighter with the kids. Yikes
One more to go this year. Will clarify ASAP.

In the interim though . . .

"As per the Aries/Uranus, Cap/Pluto square in the not too distant future...

Pluto has brought out the worst in bigotry and fundamentalism in recent years. Lutin postulates that its Pluto's ingress through the last decant of Sagittarius that has motivated people to kill based on the visceral feeling that they really doubt their core beliefs. I don't doubt that mechanism. They are killing each other in righteous anger which is totally misguided. He may be on to something,

In this tired state I'll just briefly say that we can no longer indulge in and reward idolatry. Hopefully Pluto transiting the solar apex will awaken us all to other possibilities of contemplating the "ALL." Instead of the one.

I think I may be in some disagreement with how you are characterizing Aries energy and the significance of the upcoming square, but really am not clear about the paradigm you are describing."

The paradigm is one of celebrity worship and how dis empowering it it for most souls.

I doubt we are in serious conflict really.

best as ever

10. Kicking this older thread now that Pluto is crossing over...so to speak...into Capricorn
Edited on Sat Dec-29-07 08:38 PM by Dover
And adding a couple of more Pluto/Cap. articles:

http://www.astrodynamics.net/Articles/Pluto-in-Capricorn.htm

http://www.astroconsulting.com/FAQs/pluto_returns_to_capricorn.htm

And another old thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=245&topic_id=66&mesg_id=216

And this is a site I've not yet run across. Maybe somebody here knows more about it...combines Astrology, Nostradamus and Orwell, and discusses these long cycles of the outer planets.
I'm not sure, at least on a fully conscious level, if we can wrap our minds around what's coming down the pike. And that's probably just as well. I feel some of this info presented below (the part about Islam moving up into France and southern Europe, and the part about Iceland/Greenland/Ireland) to be true...or at least it resonates with some memory deep in my bones...

Excerpt:Cracks In Time

The planetary cycles for a potential endgame scenario are mysterious and knowable only through the sixth sense, which we will discuss toward the end of this book. To understand the movements of time, we need to analyze the planetary alignments in detail. The basis of astrological alignments is rather simple to understand. Imagine a clock with ten hands that rotate at different speeds. The hands (planets) form certain aspects, or geometric angles, with each other at varying times. That is all there is to it.

Pluto is in Sagittarius until 2008. From May 2001 to March 2003, it will be opposed by the master of time, Saturn, in Gemini, sign of bipolar or twin solutions. 1931 and 1965 saw such Saturn-Pluto oppositions in recent history, albeit in different signs: the beginning of the German-Japanese axis, the theft of the spear of destiny, in 1931 and the Vietnam increments of 1965.

2002 will see a fundamental confrontation of belief systems and of system management news, leading to wars of ideas lasting well into the years 2012 and beyond. Communication and information warfare will lead the news. The news itself will be the vehicle of the war to control minds. Saturn in Gemini will insist on the substance of information rather than merely the amount, while Pluto in Sagittarius will simply discard what no longer is true. Prosperity is globally secure until 2010. The economic situation until then will improve, as growth continues naturally.

By 2010, planet Saturn - ruler of Capricorn - will be in Libra, to square and to dispose of Pluto in Capricorn, while opposing Uranus in Aries, an almost mythological and extremely volatile T-square. It can easily be concluded that alliances (Libra) will break up, while the system structure (Capricorn) is broken through. A polar shift? A similar alignment was in place in 1931, when Hitler’s black magicians took over - Uranus in Aries, Saturn in Capricorn, and Pluto in Cancer. The April-May 2011 alignments are far more brutal, as Jupiter aligns with Mars in Aries, to magnify the hotheaded temper of Uranus.

Human beings have always built walls, or comfort zones with limiting fences, only to have them torn down. Pluto in Capricorn (2009-2024) will undermine society’s system structure and thereafter its system management (Aquarius) until 2044. The lesser must go; the greater will stay; as things must transform, such is the law of Pluto, lord of nuclear power, wealth and depth psychology, master of the collective subconscious - the better to transform the world we live in...

By 2035/36, Pluto will have advanced towards the 17th-21st degrees of Aquarius, where Uranus was as the New Millennium began. It is safe to say that the World Wide Web will come down and be replaced by something of longer lasting value. At that time, Saturn will reach the 17th-21st degrees of Leo, questioning authority very severely and again opposing Pluto head on for a reality check-in time.

If Orwell’s visions and Nostradamus’ calculated predictions are correct - and I would propose that they are accurate depictions of times yet to come - then we will have three spheres of influence by then: Our Western hemisphere being ‘Oceania’, Europe and the Middle East being ‘Eurasia’, and the Oriental hemisphere made of China and India, being ‘Asia’, or the ‘yellow race’, in Nostradamus’ words. Sometimes he refers to them as the ‘shaved heads’ that will not be affected. (Quantum physics would teach us that we all affect each other, in some way.)

Nostradamus sees France defending itself against Islam and losing the contest. Islam will move into Southern Europe. Meanwhile the ‘king of the Baptists’ (Nostradamus’ name for the head of state of the Western hemisphere) appoints a new ruler for the U.K. which thus becomes some British satellite of the USA, with a prime minister as acting governor of a new state of the USA. That will leave Ireland, Iceland, and Greenland as the last bastions of Celtic Atlantis....cont'd
