Kwan Yin, Past Life Connection? Long one.
After wrapping up for the night a painting of Kwan Yin I'm working on, I started thinking of my vision of her that led to the revelation from my mother of our "Chinaman" ancestor.

Then I started thinking of the recurring tsunami dream I had throughout childhood and another tsunami-like dream that led to my construction of shell boxes.

In the second dream, I was an Asian child with her mother who loved collecting seashells on the beach, when suddenly a man screamed tapay! My mother grabs me and scrambles up the stairs into a house that stood on long sticks. And then a wave would come swooshing around the stilts of our house. In the dream, I'd sit by the doorway looking down mesmerized by all kinds of sea creatures.

I'd wake up when my mother would say: Get away from the door before you fall in.

So back in the '80s when this dream was so frequent, I searched the word tapay but only found the city in Taiwan and someone told me it also meant stranger. I gave up searching for the meaning - until tonight when it hit me that I should search it phonetically.

YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS! I found the word. I Googled tapay that led me to this page http://www.binisaya.com/cebuano/tapay and this definition
n. 1. crest the top line of a hill, mountain, or wave.
v. 7. crest reach a high point.; "The river crested last night"

So I'm like where on earth is this Binisaya.com based so I go to the homepage and read this: "Binisaya is the term we use for our language. It is spoken by about 20 million peoples in the islands of the Visayas and Mindanao. Mostly it is referred to as Cebuano."
So where on Earth is it??? Wiki to the rescue: The Philippines! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visayas

I Googled to translate the word and you can listen to how it's pronounced. It is exactly as I heard it many times in the recurring dream Ta-pay!

Of course, Kwan Yin is venerated in the Philippines, as well but it seems many have transformed her into the Virgin Mary, being Catholics and all. I don't know much about the Philippines other than it was a Spanish colony, I love the food and the people I've met along the way.

But what's so cool is that I feel I'm getting closer to finding the area where my "Chinaman" came from, as well as a link to him and this dream that I believe is one of a past life.

The word exists and it definitely relates to water! Anyway, I so feel that he loved Kwan Yin, being a seaman and all, and am so pleased that his love of her was so strong that she came to me down through all of these years. She knew me before I knew her and that feels so good!

1. Wonderful Connections KOB
I just :loveya: computers and especially the internet. With these tools at our disposal we can seek the knowledge that can help us make the connections that we would otherwise not be able to make.

I'm so thrilled that you have made progress and a connection with your past. I believe that your painting help to create a connection to your subconscious mind, therefore you were able to access the data you have been searching for. Our minds are such an amazing and fascinating faculty that allows us to see these observations and connections that truly are hidden deep within our psyches.

Have you ever done the past life technique using a mirror?!? Perhaps this could also be beneficial to your discovery of your past life.

 and :hi:

9. MagickM, as bad as the times are
I feel really fortunate to be living in this here and now. I'd given up long ago finding this word and in just seconds it popped up. It's really wonderful to finally know that I didn't just dream this word up in relation to not only water but cresting water

Wow, sounds a little scary - I'm such a chicken - but I will try the mirror technique. Could you point me to a source or three that you like? :loveya:

2. I so love this!!!!
I have major angelbumps!!!!

MM is so right -- the Internet helps us connect (and reconnect) to the most amazing knowledge, and people.

I didn't know the history of your exquisite seashell creations -- that's fascinating, KoB!

Thank you for sharing this bit of magick today. :)

:loveya:

10. Yeah, OGR. I've always felt my past mother
was a frustrated artist - as I am right now LOLOL... I wanted to honor her unfulfilled desire and the massive collection of seashells in our past house by doing something that I think and feel she wanted to do. I've even used the technique as background in some paintings. At one point, I was shelling everything I could lay my hands on  :loveya:

3. Thanks for sharing
What a great revelation.
BTW, is the soul who was your mother in that dream in your current life? I got glimpses of a couple lives in regressions and recognized only three people in those lives.

11. Interesting that you ask.
I'm not sure but I have a feeling that my past mom may be a present day sister.

When we first moved to San Diego, and this is over 10-15years after the dream - and quite frankly, the dream wasn't part of my waking consciousness - I had to go find seashells. My sister who came here with me was game.

While picking the shells, I remember stopping and looking up at her with the feeling of sheer deja vu. And I said, we've done this together before as the dream came rushing back. But she said I don't feel any desire to pick shells or do anything with them, I just love being here by the water for the rest of my life. She and now her daughter are my best supplier of shells :D

12. Yeah, it is a surprising relief.
:fistbump: I hope to get more insights that I can search to put this puzzle together. It's such a shame that he just came to be known for his region of origin. Having a name would really be a blessing.

LOVE THIS! :loveya:

Congrats to you for persisting until you found out the answer. And yes, the intertubes is a WONDER for stuff like this. So glad you figured it out! :hi:

On edit: Forgot to mention--Kwan Yin can be VERY persistent when it's time for you to know her. Several years ago I had a dream where I had a statue of her, made out of red resin. Damned if I didn't find the EXACT ONE (on the Web of course) with very little searching, and ordered one RIGHT AWAY. She sat in my bedroom for a while, but after MG Jr. was born, she wanted to watch over him, so now she sits on his bedside table with representations of the four directions around her...including a small glass jar with sand, sea glass, and tiny shells that we picked up on the beach in California--as close to her homeland as we've gotten so far. ;)

14. Wow, persistence is the right word.
:hi: She's the perfect goddess to watch over MG, Jr. I found out that she appears in both male and female guises, there to relate to every single one of us  I wonder how you came about feeling that the statue is for him.

I first knew her name after relaying the vision to my cousin-in-law. After which, she said you saw Kwan Yin. She went into her bedroom and came out with a little box still in its gift wrapping and took out a statue of the goddess. She said I think this belongs to you. There the lady was in the exact prayerful position I'd seen her. A Vietnamese friend had given it to her in gratitude for something, but she felt no strong connection and safely kept it in the box.

8. ah Cebu. good food. lovely people.
never been to the Philippines myself, but know quite a few American Pinoy from Cebu. it's one of the many dialects there. Philippines does have a large Chinese community that long ago integrated with the locals (often becoming regional elites). what a fascinating co-mingling of events! :)

16. Yeah, co-mingling is the truth!
I always wondered why a seaman from Asia would feel so comfortable as to remain in Africa.

If this ancestor is indeed from the Philippine area, I've since found out that there is an indigenous group called the Negritos, by the Spanish, that inhabit Southeast Asia, including "the Aeta, Agta, Ati, and 30 other tribes of the Philippines" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negrito). So it might not be a big leap to assume that if he was not of one of these groups, he certainly might have felt a strong connection to African people.

17. well, ancient human migration, especially African Bantu, supports such ideas.
ancient human migration is believed to have gone up past mozambique & madagascar and into what is now Tamil region of India and Sri Lanka, and then around Malay & Indonesian islands and onto Australia itself. and then what are now termed the Bantu peoples of Africa cam back to the continent to displace San peoples (Kalahari Bushmen) on the lower part of the continent. though I am sure there's still plenty of debate involved on the topic, it's so long ago migration patterns cannot get too specific, that's roughly the prevalent view of one of the first out-of-Africa human migrations. i believe, if i remember correctly, it's also before the major Semitic migration out-of-Africa and into the Middle East and the rest of Europe & Asia.

18. Ah, yes. My favorite documentary on migration
is "Journey of Man" by Dr. Spencer Wells, first appearing on PBS and now on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV6A8oGtPc4&feature=related, tracking the Y-chromosome over 59,000 years.
