The Puncture of the Collective
Rick DiClemente with Cheryl Crise
It was the middle of the afternoon on January 4, 2011 in Brussels, Belgium and few if any knew what was happening. Even though the Solar Eclipse in Capricorn had just occurred about 6 hours earlier, it would take more than a star-gazer to realize the ramifications of what just had exploded above them.
Two massive planetary bodies, Uranus (U) and Jupiter (J), had just lined up with the earth. This alignment happens approximately every 14 years. But this time, the two were in the late degrees of Pisces and that hadn’t happened since 1927. That’s one complete revolution of Uranus, 84 years, and 6 cycles for Jupiter.
Astrologically, when these two effervescent planets align, they signify rapid leaps of scientific discovery (J), sudden growth of public awareness (J), spontaneously expanded perceptions, merging of social concerns (J) with technology (U), and major breakthroughs (U). This pairing pushes past status-quo stale boundaries with great enthusiasm and a sudden sense of impatience and readiness. These two speak of liberation (U) and creativity (J).
Air and Fire.
As with all combinations of planetary influences, there is also an accompanying down-side, a shadow-side, a misuse of the energies that can mutate and manifest in unpredictable ways. The combination of Uranus and Jupiter can loose a wild, destructive, chaotic, irrationality too. It’s called going nutso.
This is what seemed to happen 4 days later to the accused mass-murderer, Jared Lee Loughner, in Tucson, Arizona. These two planets are known for pushing you out of the nest or sometimes, over the edge. It all depends on how stable you are in the first place. Allegedly, Loughner (22), shot and killed 6 people and injured 14 others. US Representative Gabrielle Giffords was nearly killed; a nine-year-old girl, Christina Taylor-Green, suffered a fatal bullet, as well as a Federal Judge, John Roll, and others.
His natal chart was experiencing the square (right angle) from the transiting Uranus/Jupiter almost exactly to his natal Uranus in late Sagittarius. For a “healthy” 21-yr-old mind, this should have been a joyful time of discovery, a liberating time of the initial excitements of young adulthood and independence.
Collectively, the USA went through a great shock during the Tucson shootings. Instantly, knee-jerk pundits started to blame (J/U) the overall vitriolic feverish political tone (U) of the country’s rhetoric (J). Jupiter is known for over-reaction and exaggeration, while Uranus can frankly respond in a fanatical way. These two planets no nothing of restraint. This is why we’re seeing people with such short fuses now, getting overwrought about politics and current affairs.
Then, two days later on January 10, 2011, seemingly unrelated to the Tucson Massacre, Professor of Astronomy, Parke Kunkle, of the Minneapolis Community and Technical College was interviewed by a local television station. He didn’t know it at the time, but he was the unwitting channel of Uranus and Jupiter when he addressed the subject of the “precession of the equinoxes.” The precession is often cited by those untrained in astrology in an attempt to prove that astrology is based on false premises. Astrologers have long been aware of the precession factor and incorporate adjustments for it into their calculations and interpretations.
Astronomers use is the “sidereal zodiac (via the stars)” which aligns the planets with the constellations. Western astrologers use the “tropical” zodiac which is calibrated differently and aligns itself each spring with Earth’s seasons. Two different zodiacs. Unrelated. One big confusion. Apples and oranges.
Kunkle’s discussion then went on to a different subject – “the 13th sign of the zodiac.” Named Ophiuchus (or Serpentarius,) this massive constellation lies above and between Scorpio and Sagittarius. Since the ever- separating sidereal and tropical zodiacs are currently offset by approximately 25 degrees, somehow it was suggested that Ophiuchus could fit in between Scorpio and Sagittarius and fill in the gap! There never was a gap to begin with! What followed was a great mix-up of two entirely different stories. Prof. Kunkle released the beginning and ending dates that would correspond if we did in fact have 13 signs. This suggested table of 13 date -ranges had already been published many years ago in a book on “Ophiuchus, the 13th sign.” The subject keeps reoccurring ever few years and is largely disregarded by the astrological community. This time around, however, public panic ensued. Across the globe, people became upset that somehow their Sun sign was no longer! Some Scorpios now were to be Librans, some Capricorns would be Sagittarians, etc. People became very confused and weren’t happy about it! As a by-product, it was a revelation to many that they had developed this visceral attachment to their Sun sign and its accompanying archetypal essence.
Then, before you could even learn how to pronounce OFF-ee-YOO-kuss, a third unrelated story reared its head and spread quickly across the internet: one of shifts to the earth’s magnetic fields. These shifts are common, but apparently the current position of the most recent shift of magnetic north has gotten to the degree where at least several U.S. airports renumbered their runways to match.
So, add it all up. In the great confusion, we had two different zodiacs; a 13th sign of Ophiuchus, and a significant shift to earth’s magnetic field! Keep in mind: this was all occurring immediately after Jupiter had met up with Uranus on January 4, 2011.
Nothing like this clamor had been heard before. Immediately, across our planet, astrologers tried to quell this bedlam. The clarification of the “precession of the equinoxes” was issued for a kazillionth time and folks calmed down somewhat - back to the comfort of their misleading newspaper horoscopes. All was calm. No one cared about Ophiuchus anyway and figured the airplanes would find safe methods for landing somehow.
Of course, during this time, I was bombarded by confused clients via phone and email! “What do I do now?” On the afternoon of Friday, January 14, 2011, I had a major epiphany that something very special was happening. Yes, there were great misunderstandings abounding, but the degree to which the masses were disquieted was on such a scale that I felt something much bigger was afoot.
Something much bigger was afoot
For the first time in history, I believe, people refused to have “objective science” disconnect them from their divine connection, their lineage to their natural archetypal roots that they feel through their Sun sign. Most people cannot understand how astrology works. Many will downplay astrology as malarkey, but don’t dare take away their Sun sign. It went deeper than that. They may not know that they have 4 or 5 signs well represented in their birth chart or that their chart has many other dimensions, but, they feel at a primal level, collectively, that their archetypal nature is in fact, valid. This new suggested Ophiuchan paradigm was simply not workable or acceptable.
Aware of it or not, people found their real connection to their Sign’s archetypal nature Why? Because they were threatened with losing it
So, I started to wonder, “What had happened 84 years earlier, one revolution of Uranus ago?” Often times the completion of a planet’s orbit marks times of special turning points in human history. I also suspected Uranus because it represents chaos and sudden change besides the fact that it rules technology and astrology itself. I did some research and I found that Uranian themes of independence, revolution, scientific breakthrough, changes in ideology, sudden leaps of realization, or collective panic, etc. recur approximately every 84 years in relationship to a “starting event.” Remember, Uranus rules the sign of Aquarius.
This is just one example of using a starting date and following every 84 years or so to see the reoccurring return points. To give you an example of these repetitive cycles, take a wide view and go backwards from WWII:
Year ---- 1945 World War II (Aquarian President Franklin Roosevelt) --84 years earlier 1861 American Civil War (Aquarian president Abraham Lincoln) --85 years earlier 1776 Declaration of Independence --84 years earlier 1692 Mass-panic at the Salem witch trials --85 years earlier 1607 Jamestown was founded Consider what dramatic shifts happened in the American psyche during these times. Each had to do with massive revolutions to American “thought” and/or issues of freedom - both Aquarian and Uranian keywords. The collective.
You’ve both the birth of a nation as well as one of our greatest examples of mass hysteria. Certainly hysteria is a word that can easily be applied to these “modern” political times.
Aquarians can stir up the collective mind for the best or the worst.
Aquarians: Glenn Beck, Dick Cheney, Ellen DeGeneres, Keith Olbermann, Sarah Palin, Ed Schultz, Eckhart Tolle, Oprah Winfrey, etc.
The main effect Uranus has recently had on the masses in the USA is that it has shaken up those who want to cling to the pseudo-safety of the past, those who tend to see all movement toward progressive change as being radical and irresponsible
I went back in time about 84 years from 2011 and wondered what had happened in the approximate year of 1925 and remembered that Einstein was toiling with other physicists over major differences of opinion regarding the Quantum Theory of Physics.
That was it!
