Well ain't that something
Mea culpa, everybody. I'm just going to shut up now. After bitching in my "monetary wealth" thread about not being able to figure out how to manifest wealth, I've gotten another dope-slap from the Universe. No, I haven't won the lottery, but I have learned a lesson.

Remember those old "that's good"/"no, that's bad" jokes? Here's my personal one--maybe without a punchline, but it sure is a whopper. Ready?

- So even though I have been complaining about how much debt we're carrying, I was looking forward to finally finishing up paying Mr. MG's car loan so I could save some money before buying a new car of my own, preferably a Fiat, when they come here at the end of this year/beginning of next year.

- That's good!

- No, that's bad! My Jeep's transmission is dying, six months too early! I need to buy a new car. Well, a used car.

- Oh, that's bad!

- No, that's good! I found a nice used Saab convertible, being sold by a nice lady who's related to one of our neighbors.

- That's good!

- No, that's bad! That means I have to scramble to get a car loan before somebody else buys it (it's that nice). And in the process, I had to disclose how much debt we're carrying.

- Oh, that is bad!

- No, that's good! Because when I told the banker what we owed, she said we could probably get a home equity loan to cover a good chunk of the debt.

- That's...good, then?

- That IS good. House of cards--home equity money goes toward the debt consolidation loan and it gets wiped out. And although this is the company who said I am not allowed to put more debt in this loan (they invited me to do that a couple of years ago but when I asked last week, they said they don't do that anymore), I'll bet anything that when I try to close that account, THEN they will invite me to put more money into it. And I will move my credit card debt onto it and clear the MasterCard. And lo, a solution, mere days after my bitchin' session.

Lesson learned. And...that's good. ;)

I guess when you let the Universe handle it, the Universe handles it.

That's a load off your shoulders I know. Congrats.

8. This one?

I agree! But I still have my fingers crossed to make sure everything works out. (I also have to make sure the guy who wants my decrepit Jeep still wants it...and will pay me a little sumpin' sumpin' for it even though the tranny's going...)

13. Very good.
I spent all last week fretting about money and some upcoming expenses that I will be forced to put on credit cards. Then I decided to give it to a higher power. Then I got a credit card offer with a zero percent APR for then next year and a half!

15. Good news
Plus the interest on the home equity loan will be deductible on your taxes.

A step forward!!

16. Ooh good point
I forgot about that! :D

Also cool--Mr. MG, who's usually so resistant to stuff like this (I tried to refinance back in January but he said no, that it wasn't worth it) just signed the loan application without fussing even a tiny bit!

19. OK, now I have one
I was really worried some summer classes I expected to teach wouldn't come through. They did, though!

The only problem is that they don't quite cover my summer overhead. It's OK 'cuz I have money in the bank but I would prefer not to have to use that money to cover summer expenses. I was planning on doing some web design and writing work to make up the difference.

I am having a ball teaching these classes, which I talked about on my "wave from the other side" thread.

Today I got a call from my department and an instructor has been unable to fulfill an assignment for which she previously committed. They want to know if I'll teach two more classes. If I teach the two classes, it will 100 per cent cover my summer expenses.

I'm a little concerned about committing to them as I'm not terribly proficient in the subject but my school thinks I can do it.

Cool, hmm! :toast:
