1. I waited with my mother at the doctors for 2 hours
Then I went to the store for her and waited again for the butcher to pack exactly what she wanted, another 25 minutes. All day, it has been the same, everything slow almost to standstill.

2. Can I blame Mercury in retrograde
for my heater malfunctioning? It's brand new. It was installed in August. I didn't light the pilot until the 3rd week of October. And, as of Saturday, the pilot went out and will not light again. It's COLD.

Of course, the heating company I bought the heater from is closed on weekends. So I froze all weekend, and left them a message with the answering service. They called back this afternoon, to let me know that they can show up on Tuesday at 4:00. So I cancelled a parent conference and trip to the chiropractor, both scheduled for after school on Tuesday, so I could be home in time for them to diagnose the heater. I sure hope they get it fixed in one trip.

Our low will be in the 'teens tonight.

15. I'm warm and cozy tonight.
It took 4 days to get it fixed. We had a sudden cold snap during those 4 days; hard freezes every night.

I am so happy to have the heat back on!

:hi:

3. i love saying that!
such an inside joke among people who are even the least bit versed in astrology. seriously it does have effects, but it also makes a great "It's all Clinton's fault" catch-all excuse.

"oh crap, i dropped the casserole! Mercury must be in retrograde!" *shakes fist in the air*

5. it's up my whole family's butt
this is the worst one I have had since last year when there was an especially bad retro period.

the usual suspects, defaulting contracts, travel screw-ups, etc. my mom says what ELSE will happen to us? I said don't ask.

6. I backed my truck into a ditch
the night Merc turned Rx. It was a simple back into somebody's driveway to turn around manuever, but I did not pay close attention. Errg. Got hung up in the ditch Big Time. Had to call a tow truck to get out. An expensive reminder to me to pay attention to what is happening in the present.

As a sidenote, while waiting for the tow truck I did have the opportunity to gaze up into a vast, clear starry sky from the llano (high desert plain) just south of Santa Fe in the Land of Enchantment. It was magnificent -- and I suppose the center of the milky way -- where merc is turning -- was up there somewhere. Truly, soul-fillingly beautiful.

PS - Thank heavens for cell phones.

The Old Man of the Steppes Finds a Horse

Once upon a time, there was a wise old man who lived in the steppes. He owned many horses. One evening, after a long day of working in the fields, he came home to discover that one of his horses--a mare, had run off. His family and his neighbours searched the surrounding area. When they finally gave up, they sent him their condolences, “We are sorry that this unfortunate incident happened to you.” The old man of the steppes remarked calmly, “The loss of my mare is not necessarily a bad thing. All will be shown for its true worth in time.”

The next morning, the old man of the steppes looked up in the horizon and saw two horses coming towards his house. The first horse was his mare that had run off, and the other was a stallion following the mare. Even from a distance, he could see that this stallion was a war horse of great stature and worth. He quickly inquired at the county office whether anyone had reported the loss of their stallion. The county magistrate advised him to keep the horse until someone had reported it missing. That evening, the old man’s family and his neighbours celebrated the return of his mare as well as his newly acquired stallion. At the celebration, he was called upon to make a speech. The old man of the steppes stood up and remarked calmly, “The acquisition of this stallion is not necessarily a good thing. all will be shown for its true worth in time.”

A week later, the old man’s son took the stallion out for a ride. Not being skilled in manoeuvering a great war horse, the boy suffered a terrible fall. As a result, his leg was broken. The old man’s family and his neighbours crowded around the boy and commented, “This is an awful thing that has happened. This stallion has brought bad luck to the family.” The old man of the steppes stood by the boy and remarked calmly, “This accident is not necessarily a bad thing. All will be shown for its true worth in time.”

Sometime later, the kingdom was involved in a cruel and unjust war with a neighbouring kingdom. All the young men of the kingdom were called upon to enlist in the army. The old man’s neighbours lamented as all their sons were called off to fight in the war. It was impossible to escape the draft as the enlisting officers moved from county to county and house to house in search of all the young men. Inevitably, they finally came upon the old man’s house.

Seeing the stallion in the yard, they remarked to themselves, “This must be the home of a great warrior. But why has this coward not gone off to war? We must seize him at once.” When they searched the house, they found only the old man of the steppes, his wife and their crippled son. The enlisting officers then remarked, “This young man would have been a fine soldier if it were not for his broken leg. We cannot take him with us.” And thus, their son was exempted from fighting in the war. The old man’s neighbours, observing with amazement the declared, “What wisdom this old man has, that he can foresee both good and bad incidences for what they are truly worth!”

8. My water heater broke last Sunday!
Luckily, my husband is very handy and replaced it himself-- but we still had to go thru 2 days of unshowered grunginess, while laundry and dirty dishes piled up--

Does yours need to be replaced, too?

Also, my computer was on the fritz most of the week (withdrawal!!) :argh:

9. The week of Thanksgiving was pure hell for me.
Refrigerator shelf exploded - in my hands. 3 hour cleanup.
Microwave caught fire and blew up. Had to go buy new one in snowstorm.
Husband passed out on Thanksgiving. Now Hypoglycemic - "pre-diabetic".
Granddaughter(9) stated at Thanksgiving that she "Prays to God to Kill her". GASP! After lengthy discussions, she is now forbidden from attending the Uber-Fundie church that put these thoughts in her head!!!

This week; I've gotten totally unexpected 3 checks in the mail, totaling over $300.00 - just in time to purchase a new battery for my car. The old one died yesterday.

Sat I came down with a cold

Tues my customers were in a tizzy because the SrVP was visiting and they had lots of glitches (lucky I could help with some but the tension was high)

Friday hubby came down with the cold

11. Oh, I don't know - yours sounds awful too!
I managed to make a nice meal in spite of it all. The scariest part was that I was just a few feet away from my husband when he passed out - I managed to hold him up long enough to get everyone running to my screams. I've known that man for over 30 years, but I had NEVER seen him pass out before, and I don't care to repeat the experience either!

Friday - I stayed in bed!

You have my sympathies on your troubles too - I hope your foot gets better soon. When I whack my feet, the only thing that will soothe them is a mint foot lotion - have you tried that? Maybe soak a cloth in mint tea, and lay that on your foot?

I wonder why this retrograde is slapping us so hard? I've been good, I swear! ;-)

12. i have a wonderful Chinese liniment that I've been using
but if it's broken, only time will heal it.....

is the same foot a horse stepped on 35 years ago, so it is prone to fractures in the same place :(

glad your hubby is OK, but that must have been terrifying!

16. This lasts HOW long?
A couple of years or so? :)

Nah, nobody I know is having much fun with this mess. I've caught a cold and stayed home from th office today. Material Girl has started throwing up AND whining about how bad she feels, and now hubby is feeling like he's been hit by a bus. I'm thinking we have become a house that needs to placed in quarrantine...

I'm supposed to be in Springfield on Thursday for a hearing on the appeal of the hospital property tax exemption case I've been working on for the last two years. (If this hearing goes well, we may be able to force hospitals in Illinois to treat poor people for free if the hospital wants a property tax exemption.) I'm crossing my fingers, but I'm also feeling worried about the entire Mercury retrograde thing!

So--what is the verdict, gang--when does this influence pass or even lighten up?

18. This too shall pass!
As with all things unhappy or unpleasant, this too shall pass with time. Colds go away, thankfully!

The majority of this appeals hearing rests on things that happened at the time--rather than now. One small comfort is that the argument was made and now it is a matter of defending it, rather than having to prove it all over again.

I've been aware all the way on this case that it was possibly going to impact a LOT of people positively. I had some initial angst about getting it done right--but at this point in time, we really are past that (for the time being.)

Frankly, I don't expect any kind of ruling before Feb. 05.

Brightest blessings, and hang in there! I'm doing the OJ and chicken soup cure...

19. Wow, I didn't even realize that it was mercury retrograde!
I've been feeling rather rotten having just returned from visiting my father whose dementia is progressing. But so far, nothing has "happened" this time.

However, it would take a lot to top the last one... I got fired. For no cause. The one before that, our septic field stopped working and we had to dig up our yard and replace it; and the hot water tank went. I thought that one would be hard to top. The one before that, the roof started leaking damaging the bathroom and the roof had to be replaced and the bathroom fixed. Looking back on this, it seems the bathroom has been the target of most of the retrogrades, I had better do an energy cleansing in there.

20. I spoke too soon
and I knew as I was typing that I shouldn't say that nothing has happened.

This retrograde had at my husband's vehicle. He had to replace the brakes, the radiator, the coil and some other part that I forget all within a few days. It cost close to $1000.
