Mixed weekend with our rescue group
We found homes for 5 dogs and 3 cats, including an 8 year old Chihuahua and a 5 year old dachshund. Ray, our big ol' 7 month old St Bernard mix was adopted as well.

On the negative side, the cross-town branch of our adoption agency has apparently decided they don't want us any more. I posted about some of the problems that we were having with them last week.

I've been updating the web pages every week to include our animals. They have changed the password so that we cannot add our animals.

It looks like we either have to come up with the money to start our own rescue or just stop rescuing animals. That would be sad because we've re-homed over 500 animals this year.

BTW, the other branch re-homed no animals at their adoption event.

1. I hope you get your own rescue started.
Or at least get joined up with a group that puts the animals' welfare before egos.

BTW, my new dog Sam cam from Raleigh. I just click on your profile and saw that is where you are from, too.

2. Sam is a cool dog. I have two cattle dogs and my parents have
an ACD mix. They're all very smart animals. High energy and high intellignece. Makes for a fun day!

3. Ahhh...memories.
We started our rescue after a falling out with the local humane society. You can check in with Petfinder.com and establish your own account there, so that your animals can stay on the web. They'll also give you a rescue-specific address, which is easier than their linking address. Example, rather than being www.petfinder.com/TX121 (which would be the 121st rescue in Texas on Petfinder) it would be www.auburngrad82rescue.petfinder.com

You just need to send them your adoption application. Check your state's laws on incorporation and non-profits, or d/b/a a non-profit, etc.

It sucks that the other branch didn't adopt any animals out.

Best of luck, and congrats on a successful weekend.

4. Great job on getting homes for the pets.
That other group doesn't sound good. Sorry to hear they aren't in it for the welfare of the animals. I hope you can find another group to list animals with. If not good luck starting your own animal listing. It's too bad that other group won't still help you while you guys get on your feet. Starting over means slow going for people to get used to you and know you are there.

Hey, getting publicity for this might help. If you just tell me your story, I'll write the artical and send it to you for approval, then I would send it to the editors of the news paper and tv/radio stations in your area.

Seriously, what that other group is doing may result in animals not getting a chance to be saved from euthanization and adopted.

5. one more thing
publicity releases would be very helpful if you end up having to get your animals adopted without going to the other partys known website. That means you wouldn't have to mention that group if you don't want. You can still get some good news releases out and try to get publicity for your cause. I am happy to help.
