Good News!!! This will restore your faith!
On Tuesday evening, the Minnesota Humane Society announced that due to a fast moving feline illness, they would be forced to euthanize over 100 cats if they were not adopted in the next 24hrs.

On Wednesday morning, they were swamped by a huge crowd of people willing to adopt the cats.

By late afternoon ALL had been adopted!!!
:woohoo: :grouphug: :applause:

That is the same shelter where Bug and Maggie lived before coming to live at my house!

Bug & Maggie say, "Thanks for Caring Y'All"

1. Thank you, I needed this.
I've been worried about Loriens Hecate and her other cat.

At least great news for those cats in that shelter.

2. That is wonderful news!
I suspect that FP was the culprit for the shelter-there's a very horrible strain of it out there this year. I'm so glad that the people stepped up to help out; they really can surprise you sometimes!

3. is this that FP virus (distemper) that is going around?
I mentioned it to my SPCA when I adopted my ginger boyz in June, but they said they had not heard about it.

My kittens are due for second round of shots and I am paranoid to take them back to the clinic, seems they brought some URI home last time and passed it to my older cats. I wish I could find a mobile vet here, we had one in PA.

Glad to hear that kind souls have hearts out in Minn. :)

13. The paper said distemper.
And that the shelter would be closed for a few days while they got rid of all the bedding, cages, etc. and sterilized the rooms.

Sounds awful.

I drop in there occasionally just to play with all the cats. Their staff is very lovin.

or in my case, "cats".

I had 5 yesterday but may have 6 today as I woke-up and and found an extra black one in my apt. It must have snuck in last night. I don't know how long it plans to stay.

7. That's what stumps be about cats- THEY find YOU
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 03:11 PM by Patiod
With dogs, the family decides "let's get a dog", and then they go to a breeder or the pound or wherever, and get the dog.

With cats, they just sort of appear at your house, in a box, in the arms of a friend, or on their own 4 feet.

"...I woke up and found an extra black one in my apartment" --- you don't just wake up and find a dachshund in your apartment. But lots of people find out that a cat has just sort of moved in with them....

There are plenty of cats I feed on the porch. I don't have any dogs that show up demanding food. I'm sure some do to some people. Just not with the frequency cats do. And the moving in thing, definitely cat trait.

10. I had a little gray kitty move in with me last year.
I have no idea how she got in. She stayed about a month, fattened up, then left. I have no idea how she got out, either. I still leave food out there for her and the other strays.

my house is too small for any more than the two cats i have but plenty of my neighborhood "outside" cats have adopted me. one stays all the time and about 4 spend half their time here. my bf is starting to call me the crazy cat lady. and i did get mad that some kids were in my yard the other day. oh no...
