Cat stink, help please!
As many of you know I am fostering cats right now. For some reason some of their litter boxes tend to just plain stink more then others. I especially notice this with the moms who are nursing. Now I feed them all basically the same thing (depending on age, etc). They all get healthy food. I change the litter box every day and I use deodorizer in the boxes.

Anyway, I have one mom and her babies in my son's room. He hasn't been able to sleep in his room since she arrived. I can't explain the odor it's just horrid. I even went out today and bought air purifiers for both my son's room and the office were we have our other foster kittens. I also leave the windows open most of the time to air out the rooms. I bought a Dyson animal vac and I vacuum the room every day.

Our own house cat's litter box is fine. Could it be because with him we use normal litter but with these other cats we use non clumping plain ole' Johnny Cat? The clumping litter is a big no no with kittens because they will eat it and get sick.

To make a long story short I am going crazy with the smell. I am so sensitive to bad smells. I want my fresh smelling house back. Advice anyone?

baking soda to the litter box - helps absorbs odors

a large box or equivelent small boxes to start -- then add 1/2 small box when you clean the litter

we also use this

14oz Natural Magic Odor Absorbing Gel
Leaves a fresh clean, cedar fragrance. Last up to 90 days. Use for odors caused by pets, litter boxes, kennels & cages. Also works great for cigarette odor, mildew odor, etc. 14 oz. Choose Cedar, Citrus, Lavender, Raspberry, or Pine.

cover is slotted so cats/dogs can't lick it...

2. Try Feline Pine.
It is a litter that is made from recycled pine shavings (available in most pet stores) and smells great. It is very absorbent and turns to sawdust when it gets wet (very easy to dump out and doesn't stick to the bottom of the litter box). If you have a garden you can use it for mulch after use. Remember to clean the box daily (as you are doing) and scoop it more often if you can.

4. use it for mulch...
dog and cat feces/urine is high in ammonia and may burn plants if used as mulch...

need to let it "cook" for a year before adding it to your garden. turn it over a few times every couple of weeks to let the ammonia escape...
