Cats and cars...(not sad)
I made a discovery today about the feline worldview.
Everyone who knows anything about our felinoid overlords cats knows that they have an exquisite concept of territory...but did you know that they also have PROPERTY as well?
I'm not talking about toys, either...we've most of us seen a cat proclaiming "MINE!" over a favorite jingly ball or catnip sock. I'm not sure that doesn't come under 'territory' in a way...

ANYWAY...the story.

Yesterday was...difficult.
Emergency tooth extraction neccesary. :banghead::cry:
Wonderful Sainted Dental Clinic said "Yeah, we can get you in today (in a couple hours)". O8)
Across town, and my car has been overheating. Been handling it with filling the radiator and reservoir EVERY DAMN TIME I go someplace until I can chase down my pet mechanic.
Get to the dentist's office, and the gauge has gone from registering just above nada to ZOMG IT'S TOO DAMN HOT!! in less than a minute.
Oh dear...well, figure I'll be there for a while, give it time to cool off, then hopefully I can get this poor car home and my mechanic can replace the thermostat.
That was the PLAN.

What HAPPENED was that it overheated so badly it stalled out 3 TIMES on the way home...twice requiring the assistance of kindly people to help push the car out of traffic ...and I ended up leaving it parked in a store parking lot and getting a ride home from my friend Uncle Grumpy.

The cats were "Huh? Wait a minnit..." They know the sound of Uncle Grumpy's van. They know that it means a visit from Uncle Grumpy, whom they like, and frequently a visit from his roommate Sue, whom they ADORE. They're also used to seeing me leave in that van occasionally...but they're not used to seeing me arrive in the van after leaving in the car.
Poor kitties are confused..."Whadja do with our CAR, Mom?"
:wtf:
This morning I'm able to retrieve it...it's cooled off enough to start RIGHT up and bring straight home.
The cats come RUNNING when they hear the engine.

They MOBBED me...:hide:...jumping on the hood, the trunk, the roof, and getting inside when I opened the door.
:bounce:"YAY! You found our car and brought it back!"

I had to finally leave a window open, because Wimsey had parked himself in the back window to catch some rays.
B-) He was quite comfortable right here, thank you...and wasn't gonna budge anytime soon.

The car is definitely PROPERTY. It is their property.
I suppose I should be grateful that they allow me to drive it...

when I'm coming home. His interest is just me, tho.
Hey, you better get your car fixed. Don't you know you can burn up your motor overheating it like that?
You should not drive 100 feet without your cooling system working properly. You will melt your engine down into scrap metal.

4. You would not be filling the radiator and overflow tank if it was the
thermostat.
You have a leak. If you leak water out, which can leak out in 2 minutes, you will burn up your engine.

5. Thank you...

When he checked them yesterday they were not empty.

I filled them on principle since I dislike kicking myself for things like "If only I'd ________, then THIS would not have happened!"

I will ask him about leaks however.

The original point of the OP was about my cats' possible worldview and how it seems to both resemble and differ from that of their human servant...

9. Could also be the water pump
and depending on how far he has to tear it down to get to the thermostat, it might be a good idea to replace that on general purposes.

You usually know there is a leak because you leave a fog of steam behind, depending where it is.

Same goes for a blown hose.

Just don't drive their your car until it's fixed. The above posters are correct, you'll end up with a lump of scrap metal.

7. If they allow you to drive it,

perhaps you'll allow them to pay for part of it. :)

Funny story, and I hope the dental work went well, and I'm happy that you have a Sainted Dental Clinic, especially on the weekend. But omigosh, I feel for ya, having to push the car out of traffic after dental work - I've always felt that dental work is pain on a par with labor. Hope all is well soon, and the car up and running too.

ETA: Oh, I guess this didn't happen on the weekend - well, emergency dental work is awful any old day of the week. Best wishes!

8. After being catless for 26 years and raising Schnauzers during
that time, I had to put my puppy Misha to sleep a little over a month ago. A week later some friends and I were at an animal shelter and what was there but a 3 year old Siamese kitty named Chloe. She went home with me and I have been her property ever since. She knows when I'm going to work because she sits and looks at me as I'm going out the door and looks soooo sad. When I come home she is waiting at the back door for me so I can give her a nice pet. Once I sit down I must, and I mean she insists that I rub her continually until she is ready for me to stop...just for a bit you understand. It has been a joy having a kitty again.

for you to adopt her.
