Its a sad story, Odette and Tina need to find a really good home soon.
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 11:06 PM by tencats
Found these two on craigslist last week and when I called to inquire if they really were truely Russian Blues their caretaker wasn't sure but their story is what got me to start calling around to find a place for them. Today these two little blues are safely in a foster home. They are very special, very rarely found in rescues.

If anyone here can provide them with a good home, please inquire. They are near Madison WI.
Scroll halfway down the page to see their listing.

"ODETTE (top) and TINA...are two gorgeous RUSSIAN BLUES. These lovely sisters are spayed and have the shimmery gray short coat and vibrant green eyes this rare breed is prized for. They came to us under sad circumstances. Always well cared for their entire lives, these kitties' elderly owner was dying and extremely concerned about where her beloved companions were going to wind up. Through the help of friends we were contacted and within an hour of our picking up the two girls their owner passed away. And her kitties are indeed safe and now looking for other caring homes to share the second halves of their lives with! The kitties are affectionate and playful...not so much lap cats as cats who enjoy petting and BELLY RUBS! They are apparently most fascinated with wand-type toys...so much so that their previous person had them HAND MADE for them! They are gentle and quiet, with Odette being a bit more of a talker and Tina a "purr-er". And of course they are absolutely a treat for the eyes! :) These girls are a very healthy 8 years old and have at least another decade of love to give. A quiet adult home would be preferred. Other cats are ok, no dogs or small children please. They do NOT have to be placed together (but it would sure be nice if they could be). The reduced "mature" adoption fee applies. FOSTERED IN MADISON, WI."

1. They are gorgeous
My brother rescued a cat that looked very much like them. People who saw him said he looked like a Russian Blue. I'm not sure, as he was born in a trailer park and my brother adopted him when he was 3 weeks old after the mother was killed by some deviants. But he was a wonderful loving cat and lived into old age with our family.

3. What beauties! Please try to keep them together!
It must have been traumatic enough to be separated from their now deceased owner, who obviously adored them! Good luck and thanks for caring.

5. Having been to a few (and I mean FEW) cat shows, I'd say they're purebreds
especially the one in the top pic. You might ask the shelter to contact Russian Blue breeders online and ask them to place ads on their sites (many are happy to do so). When I was looking for a Turkish Angora (pure or mixed) I could only find TWO actual Turks in the East coast who were available for adoption. There may be loads of people out there looking for a couple of beauties like these girls. Russian Blues are very laid back and mild mannered; perfect for an older couple or single person.

7. Russians Blues are the cats pajamas! I have one
and he is the most unique, odd, humerous, cat I have ever met.

He looks just like the pictures. They are very lithe and athletic looking. I went and googled Russian Blue and found that my little guy had every single breed distinction EXCEPT one: a purebred will have mauve paw pads and my guys are black. But, some of the things they are noted for:

a love of toys and they will play fetch and they will collect and hoard toys. My guy also LOVES wands and will display his little collection of three at any given opportunity. He will also bring you a wand so that you will play with him. He also developed his own game of running down the hall with the wand in his teeth like a javelin and trying to wedge it between the molding and the carpet so that he had in effect created his own upright wand toy for him to bat at!!!

He/they DO NOT like to be held, but he will sit next to you or my guy sits on my feet every night. They also apparently are known for "paw pats" - little loving pats on your face, etc. which my guy does all the time. He also talks quite a bit.

I have never met a more interesting cat. I have had sweet cats my whole life that I have loved, but I have NEVER experienced anything quite like this. So, if anyone wants to take a shot, I know you would be rewarded.

8. Exquisite kitties! What a sad story. But I am glad they are being fostered
and soon, I am sure, they will be in their forever home and loved as much as they were before.

x(

I have five cats(and a German Shepherd), so it is difficult to understand why someone could not take two.

12. Me, too.
But at least they've found good homes. So sad about the owner - these kitties were obviously very much loved.

11. Odette has been adopted.
Adopted separately but they should be good homes for these two cats.

14. Yea! They were gorgeous
I pm'd my friend in Texas, but his place was too small, if bigger he would have taken both in a heartbeat. Glad to hear that they are in good homes, too bad not together, but what can you do?
