Help. How do I get out of safe mode?
I was working with a tech interactively, and he needed with my permission to start in safe mode...but a thunder storm is causing connection problems. I am working from my older computer, the other is in the safe mode with the black screen and just a few programs open. So how do I get out and restart in full mode?

1. WinXP?
Run > msconfig > General > choose which Startup you want (Normal)

So, in your Windows Menu, choose "Run" and then type in "msconfig" without the quotes, that will get you to that menu.

2. Yes, winxp Okay now.
I got into regular mode okay by using system restore to earlier today. I thought I could just restart, but that did not work.

Okay so far. What a day. Credit to Norton, their tech was great. I will be getting a new program tomorrow, trust me.

3. There's a key you can hit while the system is booting
maybe F8, that will take you to a menu with some startup options. Your system may be different, but it'd be handy for you to know what key that is (just hit them all until you find it, I guess?)

4. All ok now. Norton downloaded a new program for free.
I was surprised at their great interactive chat and the phone service for free. Norton 360 backup has corrupted some dll files. Once proven, once they could see it for themselves...they downloaded and installed Norton Internet Security at no charge to me.

Getting a new computer next week, and a license for it as well.

Tiring day, but it was nice to see good support.

5. Most techs are happy and proud to be able to help, but ...
if a program sold to to protect your computer actually damaged it, I would dump it. Nice they gave you a free upgrade, but there are free anti-virus programs out there that are said to be far less resource-heavy and more trustworthy.

Agreed, it is nice to encounter good support people, but not needing fixes seems to be a better option. Maybe try AVG or Avast on the new computer first and see if they provide protection without the hassles. Opinion here, and my own with AVG, is that both work fine and flawlessly.

6. No, they gave me another program recommended by my local tech
I really like Norton 360 until I used their free backup. Should have known better. By the remote and uninstalling and reinstalling, they could see it was their program that had corrupted the dll files.

It is fine now. They downloaded and instilled Norton Internet Security for free. I have always used Norton products, and I like them. I have tried others intermittently but go back to Norton.

Their support has vastly improved. I think I like NIS. It's interface and format are easier than 360 which was supposed to be so easy.
