Is it fall yet?
The first fresh pumpkin pie of the soon-to-be season. We were only able to salvage three small pumpkins before the squash bugs annihilated every gourd and melon plant in the garden. The first one I used to make the pumpkin cranberry muffins a couple of weeks ago. This is what happened to the last two:

I managed to stick a pot holder in the surface getting it outta the oven. :eyes:

1. oh, I thought the cat got at it!
That happened to me one Thanksgiving: Kitty jumped up and licked a hole in the custard. It makes sense, being so full of milk and eggs.

3. It's not like it would be out of the
realm of possibility here, too.

2. It's beginning to feel a little bit like fall might be on the way with
cooler temps and dogwood trees starting to turn, but it was up to 90 deg. yesterday. The good news is that the early fall apples are starting to come in. I've gotten honey crisp and a new variety I had never tasted called jona prince, which I think is a variation of jonagold. I've already started my apple hoard for fall.

Your pie is divine and I had the strongest desire to lick the picture on my screen. You're torturing us!

4. I love honey crisps!
And how was that jona prince?

The pie had a tad more cloves than usual, which made Bill very hqappy. He usually makes the pumpkin pies but I had time to kill yesterday and just did it.

:hi:

5. Oh, the rustic, country crust!
I could reach right over and break off that piece in the front. But if I did that I'd keep going ... just to even it all out. :D

Pumpkin is one of my favorites.

7. That's my temptation, too.
I love the crust more than the filling on just about any pie you can name. This is the ATK crust with the vodka I posted a few weeks ago. And I'm getting a wee bit better with the crimping. I'm probably going to have to keep making pies so I get more practice. :D

6. I wish September were more fall-like here, so I could get started with the baking.
It's supposed to hit 100F today. Sigh.

At least it's getting below 72 at night now.........

8. It can be very much that way
here in OK through October some/most years. So, I'm always thankful for a break in that intense sun and hear. It's a cool, rainy day today.

Relief isn't too far away now.

:hi:

11. Pie = Yummy!
Squash bugs = Little Horrors! (They even ate my butternut squash this year and they even aren't supposed to LIKE butternut! I picture them forcing down the stems' precious nectar while giggling "Sure it tastes terrible, but just THINK how pissed she'll be!! Keep on suckin' boys!"
