We need to start a recipe file.....

I rinse mine and cook it slow with fried onions, a little bacon and some white wine.

1. Could it be true?
I go through a big jar of this every week.

I always eat it right out of the jar, since I never cared for it warm. But you make it sound good, Satan.

This could be my famous last words, but I rarely get sick - of course, Old Yeller is probably a carrier of the Bird Flu ..........

2. Yum
I brown some picnic ribs and add that to the kraut and onions. A friendly combination!

3. Awesome!
I LOVE sauerkraut. I actually get cravings for it sometimes, which I find odd since I used to despise it as a kid.

4. Finally, a health food you can get at a hot dog cart!
When I worked in the city I used to get a dog with sauerkraut and brown mustard at least once a week!

5. Bigos is one of my favorite dishes
Polish hunter stew, yum.

I don't make it very often, but when I do, I cook it for 2 or 3 days straight on top of the stove (with a flame tamer so it doesn't burn). Saurkraut, dried mushrooms, turkey, pork, sausage, and if you're a hunter you should add in venison, or whatever meats you have. After cooking for that long, the meat falls apart completely.

6. I have always loved putting
saurkraut on hotdogs. I grew up in New York City and that is how I always learned to eat them. Now I live in CT and most people I know hate it. My boyfriend also hates it. So I buy a small bag for myself and just keep it in a pyrex container in the fridge. It keeps for quite some time. There was a news article about a week ago that said Russian women eat a lot of it and when the come to live to the U.S. their cancer (think it was breast cancer) rate goes up.
