Please help save the wild horses and burros!
I am posting to ask you all to please help save the lives of our wild horses. These horses have been protected by law and now because a provision quietly added to a comprhensive budget bill and passed by Congress in late November, has put America's wild horses and burros in danger. Sponsored by U.S. Senator Conrad Burns of Montana and now know as the Burns Amendment, the bill allows for the slaughter of wild horses and burros.

This is a cause near and very dear to my heart, and if you could just please take a moment to write to your Senators and ask them to stop this, I would be most appreciative.

In addition, if you live in New York, there is also a link on the ASPCA page to help our New York City Carriage Horses. These horses have been abused for years. I have personally found a horse with a broken hip on a hack line, waiting to take out a fare. I alerted the ASPCA police to this and they removed the horse from the line and insisted on vet care. The vet determined that the horse had a broken hip. This horse was back out on the line the next day!

I was also a witness to the horse Whitey (shown in many newspapers), going down from heat exhaustion. I attempted to help in that situation by calling a vet. While the horse was lying in the street, the carriage driver told me, "We don't need a vet". This was not true, because if a nurse did not happen along and knew to get fluids for the horse immediately, the horse would have died.

Those are just two of the /many/ abuses I have witnessed and tried to correct. We need to help pass the new law advocated by the ASPCA to help protect the carriage horses. The law in place at this time is not nearly adequate.

Again, I ask you all to please take a few moments to write and help a worthy cause. Thank you!
