American's fleeing to the UK
Same-sex couples forced into exile from US flock to Britain

A growing number of gay and lesbian Americans are being forced to leave the United States and resettle in Britain, where new immigration rules grant them the same rights as straight couples, according to the New York-based civil rights organisation Human Rights Watch.

"Many US citizens go into exile to preserve their families and stay with their life partners," says an HRW report,

"When US citizens' foreign partners are not permitted to live with them in their country, Americans are forced to uproot themselves and leave their families, their jobs, their communities and country

2. and since gays are generally smarter than straights . . .
this could constitute a huge drain off of American brain power . . .

okay, maybe we're not generally smarter . . . but given the lies neocons inflict on the US populace every day, might we not retaliate in kind? . . . just a thought . . . :eyes:

3. We're a straight couple with a family
and we're keeping the UK move option in the back of our minds if things continue to go south. I will stick around if we get Diebolded in 06, but in 08? I think for the sake of my kids I'd have to bail and work for change in a country that has better freedoms and might have a lesser chance of being nuked. Or nukking.

4. You'd be most welcome, however
i must warn you we are experiencing a serious authoritarian slide this side of the pond.

We have a 1/4 of the worlds!!!!! CCTV cameras in the UK, the police have more DNA samples than the rest of the world!!!! put together, including now retaining innocent people's DNA and we about to embark on the largest surveillance project of a country's own citizen's in history, namely our biometric ID Card and national identity register. Orwell was British so you would have thought we'd be more careful. Although there is a lot of fight in us yet.

We do have our advantages however

Regards
