Letter to the Editor, York (Pennsylvania) Daily Record. An interesting twist in the religionists' assault on church-state separation. :eyes:
'Christianity is not a religion'
Tuesday, October 25, 2005
I feel sorry for the poor souls in the Dover area who have been deceived to believe their ancestors were monkeys. But that is just another result of the Warren court June 17, 1963 decision to remove God from our schools and government. Since that infamous decision, we have become a vulgar, profane, rude, crude, nude, tattooed society. Before that ruling most people didn't know what a pedophile was. Now they are all around us and very likely stalking a child in your neighborhood at this very moment. Our society was quite different when our law required that the Bible be read in school each day. Then you could allow your children outside to play.
Many of our founders were Christians, many attended seminary and many had Christian names, Paul, James, John, Benjamin, etc. When they penned the religious clause in the First Amendment they knew, as do all informed Christians, that Christianity is not a religion. Actually it is the opposite. Religion depends on works, Christianity depends on God's grace. Our founders knew the difference. Too bad many judges don't.
The purpose of the religious clause in the First Amendment is to distinguish between religion and Christianity. Jesus called religious leaders hypocrites, the blind leading the blind. Notice, the First Amendment does not mention God, Jesus, or the Bible because they are, in essence, Christianity, and were already well established. No Christian would sign anything that prohibits the promulgation of God, Jesus or the Bible, because it is the mission, passion, and desire of all Christians to spread the gospel (good news).
