The U.S. Senate has confirmed Augusta, Georgia attorney J. Randal "Randy" Hall to a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.

Hall, a Republican who spent one term in the state Senate and whose law practice has focused on banking, corporate litigation and commercial real estate, was nominated by President Bush 13 months ago to fill the vacancy created when Southern District Judge B. Avant Edenfield took senior status in August 2006.

Hall, 49, has no prior experience on the bench. He told the Daily Report on Monday that he expects to begin his tenure as a federal judge in about three weeks, after paperwork is completed. Before then, he will be busy transferring files and closing out his law practice with the seven-lawyer Warlick Tritt Stebbins & Hall in Augusta, where his clients have included Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial Corp., B&C Southeast, Wachovia Bank of Georgia and Battle Lumber Co.
