I have received several emails requesting my signature on petitions against Prop 8 and pledges to work for marriage equality in CA. I would happily sign these, but I live in SD and not CA. Can I still sign them, or do you need to live in CA?
I was quite happy to sign the petition to remove the LDS's tax-exempt status when it was sent to me, but that was a national petition.
I remember the same initiative being voted on here in South Dakota in 2006. We did what we could against it, but we knew the odds were long to begin with, given that it is, after all, South Dakota. I'm just amazed that it would go down in CA, though. And I'm equally amazed that people would vote to strip rights from a minority, rights that had already been given them by the courts, no less.
And if I can't sign the petitions as a non-CA resident, are there other things I can do, even from SD?
