Arizona puts gay marriage ban on ballot - again
PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona voters will decide again in November whether to change the state's constitution to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

A 16-4 vote by the state Senate on Friday night sends the gay marriage ban to the ballot. It had previously been approved by the House.

Arizona voters rejected a similar state constitutional amendment in 2006. That measure would have also stopped the state from recognizing civil unions of same-sex couples.

Arizona law already prohibits same-sex marriages. Supporters say this proposal would protect the sanctity of families by preventing judges from overturning the 1996 state law ...

1. Wedge issues are placed on the ballot to alter voter turnout. Old trick.
Someone should raise the minimum wage by voter initiative every time they do this stuff.

3. It mystifies me, still, why people are so upset about two people in love marrying.
To the point where you think it's necessary to codify bigotry into your state's constitution.

4. How American is it to put basic Constitutional rights for a minority group to public vote?
Conservatism has really frooked our Democracy.

7. Freaking pissed about this.
My senator refused to return calls to me about this - he cosponsored the bill.

Two of the far reich wing wingnuts couldn't be there for budget votes (on vacation), but flew back just for this vote.

9. really, I guess my family is unholy then
true, quite true.

Seriously, sanctity? How about protecting the sanctimoniousness of some heterseckshul families.

No, I have a better idea. Arizona, why don't you make it illegal to have gay children. Seriously. That way you take care of those pervert sinners who keep spawn and spewing evil gay offspring, and we'll send them gays off to Canada with the horses to be turned into delicacies for the Japanese restaurant trade. It's a win-win-win-win situation.
