Westboro Baptist Church to picket funerals of murdered family in Iowa City
I posted this in the Iowa forum, but figured that anything involving this human excrement needs to be brought up here as well...

"A well-known church that protests against gays plans to picket the funeral of the six deceased members of the Sueppel family.

The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., announced in a news release that it plans to picket the Sueppels' funeral Saturday, claiming "God sent the shooter" as punishment for Iowa's sins.

Sgt. Troy Kelsay of the Iowa City Police Department said he thinks the group is attracted to the event because of Iowa City's "liberal stance" toward homosexuals and the media attention surrounding the Sueppel deaths.

The best response is to ignore the group, Kelsay said."

7. Million Fag March
Sunday March 30, 2008 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Central

Westboro Baptist Church
3701 SW 12th St
Topeka, KS 66604

The Westboro Baptist Church, of Topeka, Kansas, is a hate group masquerading as a Christian church.

Led by the Rev. Fred Phelps, the misguided members of this church target homosexuals and a range of others with messages of hate. The church’s outrageous protest actions - the group prefers to picket funerals - have earned Phelps and his ilk much media coverage.

To date, the WBC’s protests have taken place in at least 22 states, and have inspired a wave of grassroots anger. As a result, 38 states have introduced bills to limit protests near funerals, and at least 29 of those states have passed such measures. Phelps has vowed to challenge the legislation, alleging that these new restrictions unconstitutionally restrict freedom of speech.

The time has come to turn the tables. Let us all gather in one place, at one time to (peacefully) show Phelps and his church that freedom of speech works both ways.

15. Good lord no.
I have either a state board meeting in Salina or a rehearsal. I am trying to decide. We are working very hard with the legislature and gaining respect and ground. This is not something we would be interested in as a group. Now there may be people who are our members there but I am going to be busy that day. Besides, I think it is stupid but whatever people want to do is good, it just does not appeal to me. I am tired of standing across the street, sidewalk, driveway listening to all the yelling back and forth and I am sick of having to walk through them to do my job. Nope, no interest.

8. I have the PERFECT response.
Piss balloons. Let 'em stand there smelling of urine.

My dear old Grandpa was an old style Missouri Democrat. He used to say, when watching Richard Nixon on TV, 'he ought to be slapped with a sock of shit'.

serve 'em right. non-violent, but fitting.

9. Is there a bookie in Vegas giving odds on when Fred Phelps is called home to Hell?
I want to go picket his funeral when he dies.

And afterward, I want to take a huge, steaming dump on his grave.

10. what a great idea-- where is jimmy the greek when we need him?
when that bunch of sickos came to this community, my friends and I engaged in a bit of guerilla theatre-- and, after they all left, we took big stable brooms and disinfectant and cleansed the corner where they had been picketing (we even wore protective masks). the local rag (an incredibly reichwing piece of junk) thought it was funny, and took pics of us.

17. The best way to get rid of those
sorry idiots is to ignore them. The more people show up and argue with them the more they feel right in doing what they do. They are a hateful group that doesn't need the attention.
