flame away-just sent my ballot in and voted for Obama
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 08:05 PM by dwickham
it's a two person race between Hillary and Obama and I just don't see Hillary being able to win in November

I've been trying to come up with reasons why to vote for her and I just can't

after 8 years of Bush running this country into the ground, we need someone who can unite us

I think Obama can do it

Granted, I'm not thrilled with some of Obama's positions, especially on gay marriage and his use of what's his face in South Carolina but he's addressed it

I respect that; you have to

Respect is something that needs to be earned. It cannot be demanded of someone.

Demanding it often ensures that it won't be granted.

4. of course not
there are people on here who will flame someone at the drop of a hat, and I figure I'll get flamed on this thread for voting for Obama

I've come full circle on Obama; I would have never thought I'd vote for him when he first announced

not enough experience, the anti-gay marriage stance even though his denomination (United Church of Christ of which I'm also a member) is supportive of gay marriage on the national level; the debacle in South Carolina which really turned me against him

but I think he's made himself very clear on the issues; we have plenty of people with "experience" and see where it's gotten us

VP Dick probably has more "experience" than anyone else in the Bush government

I don't think Obama is in the race because he thinks he should be; I think he's in it to make a difference

5. You get to vote for who you like in the primary
Just please support whoever gets the nod next November. We need to keep the GOP out.

The only votes we control are our own, and nastiness from well intentioned people is not going to change that fact.

10. Why would anyone flame you
you made a valid choice based on your own set of priorities. That's what elections are about.

11. I'm not going to flame you, but I'm curious why you think
I "have to" "respect" Obama's explanation concerning McClurkin when I do not?

Why wouldn't you say:

"I respect that; I hope you do also," or something like that?

13. "You have to"?
No, I don't. Respect is earned, not given. He's not done that for me at all.

I respect your right to vote for whomever you want, but that's the only respect I've got here.

14. Like I said to someone else on here... that's the nice thing about the democratic process.
You get to vote for who you want to. Even though a good portion of us don't agree with you, you have access to the facts and you can make up your own mind.

And for the record, I think he is certainly the lesser evil between him and Hillary. I'm still not a fan, but such is life. And even Hillary would certainly be better than the best GOP canidate.

18. I only made up my mind to support Obama January 1.
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 02:55 AM by David Zephyr
I also think he will unite the nation. He has very high favorability ratings in every single poll (in the 70's).

He, to me, represents the greatest cultural leap forward that we might ever see in our lifetimes.

And I really like how he has inspired so many young people to get involved.

Edit: K&R.

It is about yesterday vs. tomorrow. I'm with you.

23. Well, why do people keep assuming Obama can win?
Swing state like Ohio, think a black man can win that?

It's worth asking I think. I love how Obama supporters just scream un-electable yet kinda neglect to look at their own candidate. The rock star thing may work for our party, but does it hold everywhere else? I actually think Hillary is very electable and that's why I'll be caucusing for her in February.

24. No flames from me
All I have to say is that I think Obama is a feel-good choice. Should he win I think he will be the most ineffectual person to occupy the White House since President Carter. And if he's our pick to run against the Rethugs of course I'll vote for him.

27. I won't flame you for voting for him, if you don't flame me for not voting for him in the general.
I'm not convinced he isn't far worse than Hillary. I don't like his position on international politics. I don't like how cozy he is with the Council on Foreign Relations. I don't like the fact that neoconservatives like his ideas. I don't like his heavy religiosity. I don't believe he'll do any thing for us or workers or anyone else.

As much as I don't like Hillary (and I've voted against her in the Senate primary...) I'll vote for her. I won't vote for him.
