Bill to give transgender people rights in Maryland
After getting off the phone I get a voicemail from a group linking to their notmyshower website horrified that Montgomery County is apparently prohibiting discrimination against transgendered people in bill 23-07. Gasp! There was also a mention of the defense of marriage somewhere in the message which was the first tip off of RW crazy. So now women and children need to be terrified that if this passes we will all be assaulted in locker rooms and bathrooms because people can choose for themselves which restrooms and locker rooms they use. And worst of all, religious schools may have to hire qualified transgender people as teachers. Horrors! I'll try to remember to be terrified in a public restroom if this passes. :eyes:

After getting past their statement of support from the Family Research Council ( :puke: ) I find their "Just the Facts" pamphlet, a *completely unbiased* source of information with more oogie boogie attempts to scare me about this bill along with the *outrageous* things the county sex ed curriculum contains- statements that sexual orientation is innate and coming out stories. This group is currently suing over that curriculum but probably primarily over the fact that it's not abstinance only since they're supported by the FRC.

Ugh.

Do transgender people face a lot of harassment in bathrooms and locker rooms? I'm pretty naive with respect to transgender issues so I'm sorry if that's a stupid question.

3. Where is our party on this issue?
Why don't we hear about them fighting harder and more often in regard to this important issue?

5. Yup. Someone always makes a stink in the john.
;-)

I always wonder. Where's a low-voiced, bearded, penis-less gent supposed to go, in the alley? And isn't privacy why stalls have doors? Who the hell is looking in the stalls that it should matter what you're peeing out of?

It's a secret conspiracy. Someone, somewhere, high up in the hierarchy of "They", has a thing for voyeur transgendered law enforcement water sports, and really just wants to see the security camera footage of us peeing our pants while being arrested.

9. I shouldn't, either... that makes holding it difficult...
Fortunately, I'm past the restroom issues. I've dealt with it in different ways in the past. Once, while being stared at in the hallway outside the bathrooms in a bar, I flipped a coin and then went to the one with the shorter line :-)

7. It can be a hassle sometimes
not always (for me). But unfortunately, I think it depends a whole lot on how you look. Forget "content of your character", it's all about what's in your pants.

Even if you don't get harassed a lot, it sucks to have to worry about being harassed all the time. Seriously, why must going pee at McDonalds be an ordeal?

8. You have to wonder why anyone would notice?
Maybe it's just me but, I don't pay much attention to other people in the restroom. Go in, take care of buisiness and get out.

10. That's why I was asking

I go in, do what I need to do and leave too. I don't really notice or care what others are doing. I guess maybe locker rooms are where people notice since there's usually not any stalls? But I don't pay much attention in there either since I don't care and am hurrying to change to work out.

11. I just found out about these wackos yesterday...
...from someone I work with, who lives in the same neighborhood as the woman who is the force behind CRC. Apparently, this person does, in fact, have nothing better to do with her time. She's a divisive influence at their PTA's too. Because of this person, my co worker's son went through school without even having the choice to have a sex ed class.

And they're going to stop TSs like me from using the ladies room how? A matron at the entrance? X-Ray Spex for pre-ops?

Confidence is key to success in these matters.
