New Canadian Gov't Sets New Rules For Supreme Court Appointments
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/02/022106canJudges.htm

Stephen Harper says he's looking for judges who will stick to the letter of the law, won't be too adventurous in their rulings and don't mind being grilled by politicians before taking a seat on the Supreme Court of Canada.

The prime minister conceded he can't guarantee he'll get what he wants on the first two points. But he's determined to have his way on the third.

The next man or woman nominated for the Supreme Court will face public questioning before an all-party committee of MPs.

In fact, Harper has already set the date for the three-hour, televised hearing: next Monday, Feb. 27.

1. I'm not too worried about the first two points either
Don't know what to think about the third. I suppose it's a good idea to let Canadians know more about their own SC judges, but I hope this doesn't lead to the politicization of a well functioning system.

2. like Harper or
not, grilling by politicians is not a bad thing - certainly no worse than unaccountable appointments.

5. the appointment can't be blocked by Parliment
Harper's choice is going to be seated no matter how the "grilling" goes

3. Here they go! Creating a need that wasn't asked for. We never
asked for judicial reform. We are all happy.

But I guess they need show trials. So they can teach little kiddies how to think and feel like rocks.

4. Something else we never asked for was Harper undoing Canadian
values and making up new ones. I want Harper to say just once.. PEACE, ORDER & GOOD GOVERMENT. Come on.. Francis Fukuyama said it this week.. or at least he said the words "Good Government".
