Senate bill would distance protesters from funerals
TOPEKA - Prompted by protests at military funerals by the Rev. Fred Phelps' anti-gay church, a Wichita senator introduced a bill Monday setting specific distances and times where people can demonstrate at such services.

"People have the right to bury their family members in peace," said Sen. Jean Schodorf. "I find it repugnant that anybody would protest the funeral of a soldier."

Schodorf, R-Wichita, said Kansas already has a law banning demonstrations at funerals, but the language is so vague that it's hard to enforce.

"I wanted to make it clear what the law would be," said Schodorf, whose bill was filed with 31 co-sponsors in a chamber where it takes 21 votes to pass a bill.

Awwwwww ... and right in Phelps' home state, too. (snicker, snicker)

And on a special note to Sen. Jean Schodorf: I find it repugnant that you had your head up your ass while Phelps was picketing funerals of people who died of AIDS and now only come out against Phelps now that he picketing soldiers' funerals and you can wrap your homophobia in the flag. You are hereby cordially invited to go fuck yourself.

1. When 'ol Freddy kicks the bucket I'm heading to his funeral
I've got a few things I'd like to say to the family about where he's headed. Protest works both ways.

2. Agreed. If she wants honesty, move to show the coffins. . .
Of the soldiers coming back to the states. Or those without limbs. Or those without sentience. Fuck Phelps. He is a nutjob; Shrub would like nothing more than to link him to those opposing the war. She is no doubt playing that game with the deaths of our soldiers. Morbid beast.

4. What if every time the GOP holds a rally, they call it a "Memorial Service
Schodorf's proposal would require that any protests or demonstrations stay at least 300 feet from any funeral or memorial service. The bill bans protests within one hour prior to the service and two hours after the start of the service.
