Outrage Over Muslim Leader's Anti-Gay Attack
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/01/010406ukMuslim.htm

A British Muslim leader knighted by the Queen says homosexuality is immoral and promotes the spread of disease.

In an interview Tuesday with the British Broadcasting Corporation Sir Iqbal Sacranie, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain, also said that civil partnership are damaging to society.

"It does not augur well in building the very foundations of society - stability, family relationships. And it is something we would certainly not, in any form, encourage the community to be involved in," Sir Iqbal told the BBC.

Considered by most Muslims to be a moderate, Sir Iqbal is Britain's most visible Muslim community leader. He ended his tirade on gays and same-sex unions by saying society should be tolerant but that people should also have a right to speak out on issues with which they disagree.

disease. At least that's been historically true... So I'm confused, what's the problem here ?

Hell, there's certainly more than one queen in merry old England, and boys and sheep are known to be nervous in much of the Muslim world. So again, I still can't tell what the problem is here.

3. Yup...things are going to be changing in Europe soon
I wonder how long it will be before those legal brothels in Amsterdam will be shut down. Or the re-criminalization of gay marriage. 10 years? 15 years?

5. And 'oh, I see - promoting homophobia is a noble cause, fighting oppressiv
oppressive hate speech laws.' :eyes:

Don't you guys see now why I do NOT want to be asked to defend homophobes from speech laws?

It is NOT because I favor hate speech laws (I do not), but rather, homophobes will stick together, attack these laws and defend each other. I do not want to contribute towards a movement to make martyrs of those who promote homophobia (or racism or sexism). That will happen IN SPITE OF whatever I have to say about those laws.

Rant off - :hi:

6. and he's right of course. ALL PEOPLE,
including gay people should have a right to speak out on issues with which they disagree.

His premise is that gays are not quite people themselves. I hate the word "tolerance" anyway. The word is "acceptance".

If you accept that we exist and that we're people, and that you're surrounded, we'll all get along better. The only thing immoral here is claiming moral authority to ruin other people's lives merely for existing.
