three cheers for the Glitter Bomber
I know that the tactic was panned by many here at DU,but not by me. It was imaginative and news grabbing. It was not violent as some have claimed. Time has long passed for begging and pleading, Time is now for a large variety of tactics, Flash mobs, street theater, good grafitti/freeway blogging, as well as sit ins and kiss ins, and yes, glitter bombs. no rights, no peace.

1. But it's much, much safer to sit and bitch with one's fingers on the keyboard...
rather than actually doing something!

3. I stand to be wrong, but I don't think many civil rights issues and the like in
the US have ever been won by being passive. Three cheers!!!

5. Foul!
I'm as progressive as they come, voted liberal left since Carter, support the cause with shekels and shoe soles, but I disagree with this sort of action. Your rights stop where my body begins. No matter if it's glitter, water, pie or piss, throwing something on someone is an act of violence. Curse me, scream at me, wave signs in my face, disrupt my meetings with noise, tie up my phones, barricade my doors so I can't enter my place of business, that's all kosher. But where your methods meet my body is where you become nothing but a contemptible thug and your opinions unworthy of respect or serious consideration.

There's more to political theater than simply calling attention to an issue. Done correctly, it can begin to change minds; done wrong, it serves only to catalyze the opposition and alienate the undecided. That bunch of protesting Robin Hoods breaching the moat at the Chase meeting this week was a hoot. Their approach was imaginative, creative, funny, and non-violent. The fact that some of them got maced leaves Chase looking like evil bourgeoisie hiding behind a police state, a perfect metaphor for our current national situation. Glitterboy's stunt, on the other hand, just seemed like the petulant act of one silly, ineffective spotlight-hungry fag. I deeply dislike Gingrich, but I found myself wishing some cop would have power-slammed that smirking protester into next week. If I, a fun-loving liberal queer, feel this way, you can be pretty darn sure the punk did nothing good for his cause. Can someone point to an equivalent act on the part of an individual Tea Party protester? So much for our holding the ethical high ground in political discourse.

9. The likes of me vote.
The likes of Glitterboy makes me not want to support his cause. That's my point. Offensive behavior doesn't win over any voters, period.

We're already in a fine mess, in large part because hot-headed extremists have shanghaied the discourse and made it all but impossible to have a civil conversation about the important and difficult minutiae of governance. It's all chest-thumping sloganeering and cheap-shot publicity stunts these days. The Republican party is hostage to their extremists and it's destroying them.

Shoot, never mind. The likes of you don't listen to anyone you don't already agree with anyway.

because some airbag political had a box of glitter dumped on his book signing table? Wow, you're shallow and pathetic.

some people need only the smallest "provocation" to go off on Gay activists. Better to die standing up than live on your knees

8. Yup.
The Tea party's violent, too. And they're gaining tons of support across the nation with that approach, aren't they.

10. My complaint is he should have used the tiny glitter that sticks to you for days.
But then, the tiny sparkles might have caused eye injury...is that possible?
