Spanish Lawmakers Handed Petition By 600,000 Opposed To Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/06/062905spain.htm

A Catholic lay group opposed to gay marriage presented lawmakers Wednesday with a petition bearing 600,000 signatures, a day before Parliament was expected to legalize same-sex unions in Spain.

The Spanish Family Forum said the signatures were in addition to half a million others presented last month to press the Socialist government to call a referendum on whether Spain should institute gay marriage.

"We are asking for a referendum, and then we'll know what Spaniards really want," said Luis Carbonel, president of a group that is part of the forum.

1. "600,000 people hate you"
Is how the petition should be headed.

and we can blame Christianity for this. The RELIGION. In whole.

edit: I did NOT say "Christians", I said "Christianity", which cannot be argued with.

3. Well, at least, the popular practical application and interpretation
of Christianity's holy scriptures.

Don't forget that there are gay-positive Christian denominations.

4. More specifically, the Catholic Church
meddling in politics again. Liberation theology is a no no, however.

5. I think the Catholic Church is more worried about losing more power
than about anything near the concept of "sanctity". . .if marriages take place, and they are successful as we all know will happen, the Church itself is weakened because they are revealed for the evil bigots they have always been and how their requirement for human sacrifices for their religion is morally bankrupt.

One thing I despise is this rightwing pandering to "let the people decide"...excuse ME? I don't THINK so. No other Spaniard had the "people" decide about their choice for marriage, so I think they need to get their little dirty minds OUT of our bedrooms and relationships. There is no threat to families. . .except the threat the Church has perpetuated against families with gay members, encouraging their ostracization, isolation and persecuting their existence.

No nation needs a national referendum on someone else's rights. This is exactly why Republicans are dangerous little fascists who will always look for another sacrifice to burn at the stake to keep themselves in power.

6. Interesting; "human sacrifice", figuratively, you mean.
never thought of it that way, but that is kind of what a vow of celibacy is - denying your humanity.

and this gov't is intent on cutting their take. Gays are a handy excuse to attack a popular gov't. Now they'll have to depend on the people they have conspired to keep in poverty.
