Hypocrisy rant
So, I have a new job at a medical school at a religious-affiliated university. The school's motto, and the theme that runs through all efforts is "cura personalis," which means "care of the whole person."

Yet, it struck me as I was sitting in on the first years' orientation sessions listening to this phrase being repeated over and over, my health insurance plan does not cover contraception, sterilization, or fertility treatments. If I unknowingly had an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured, I don't know that the hospital here would perform an emergency hysterectomy to save my life. If I was raped while walking my dogs in the park, I would not receive information about emergency contraception.

How the fuck can these people claim that their goal is "care of the whole person"?

:nuke:

Rant over. Carry on.

1. Because clearly the care of the soul is far more important than life
It's not about life, it's about afterlife.

As long as you're going to heaven, what do you need insurance for? That's for Atheists and Jews.

3. The commute
It's a mile from my apartment. In the urban area where I live, it's hard to turn your back on that. Before this, I had a 15-mile, one-hour commute that was literally driving me crazy. Also, I'm hoping that a big-name university on my resume will help in a year or so when I try to escape this area. So this is a very temporary stop for me.

But even if I didn't work here, their hyprocrisy would still be an issue. This is the hospital where I would be taken in an emergency, as would tens of thousands of other women. The school get millions of dollars in research grants for the federal government, and yet they can so openly discriminate under the guise of faith.
