Giants punish Marlins 2-1
Edited on Fri Jun-05-09 10:26 PM by Upton
Pablo Sandoval ("Little Panda") hit a 2 run HR, Barry Zito allowed only 1 ER over 5 innings as the Giants won their third straight road game.

Edit to add the attendance: 12,841 (33.3% full)

1. 12,841 ain't bad...
...considering some parts of Miami got up to nine inches of rain today.

I'm surprised the game wasn't called off due to weather.

2. The game was delayed an hour, too
The rain is awful down here.

And as for the game - the Giants didn't really blow away the Marlins. A 2-1 win is hardly a blow-away win. And if Zito was such a great pitcher, why did they take him out in the 6th???

4. Bochy's managing
is sometimes hard to figure and he has at times justifiably come under fire for leaving pitchers in too long .. so when Zito walked the first 2 guys leading off the 6th and considering he had already thrown 95 pitches, it was the right move.

BTW, Zito has pitched much better than his 2-6 record would indicate... he's got a decent ERA of 3.86 and has given up less hits than innings pitched. His problem has been lack of run support.

8. I'm not saying rain doesn't factor into attendance, but if we're going to
start talking weather, we need to mention what it's like during practically every night game in San Francisco.

You know .. upper 50's with the wind gusting between 16-22 miles per hour, puting the wind chill factor into the upper 40's range.

And this is during the summer.

So don't give me the tropical rain excuse. At least in Miami, you can wear shorts and flip flops no matter what the weather is doing.

14. Exactly.
If the Giants had been playing a day game this afternoon, the forecast is:

65

The high tomorrow is supposed to be:

59

So I don't want to hear whining from South Florida about a little tropical rain!

3. Maybe...but
Florida is currently 29th in the league in attendance, only Pittsburgh looks up at them, and they've finished dead last the previous 3 years....why don't more people in South Florida like baseball?

6. Let's turn the question---why do people in SF continue to support a losing baseball franchise?
72-90 in 2008---71-90 in 2007--76-86 in 2006--- a fucking horrible baseball franchise..

Dude--- I lived in Sf--- Reno and Lake Tahoe--- Wind Country---Carmel--- Mendocino--- there's a thousand things more to do than to go and watch a lousy fucking baseball team.

9. Please don't compare Reno with anything in California,
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

You certainly can't compare methamphetamine country Nevada, with the "wind" country of Napa and Sonoma.

11. So by your reasoning
because the Giants have had a losing record the past 3 years, people in the Bay Area shouldn't come out to see them.

It's that kind of mindset which accounts for why baseball has been such a miserable failure in South Florida.
